Not only did I read 'A Christmas Carol' as per usual during the festivities but I also read 'A Cricket on the Hearth'! The book I was reading had both stories in it and belonged to my late aunt. It was her school copy from the local county school and it was dated to September, 1925. In September, 1963, I had to read 'A Christmas Carol' too as one of the first books we were given to read for our English class in the same school! Makes you wonder how much education had moved on in that time but then I suppose it is one of the classics. Mr W thinks I'm bonkers for always reading it but now I suppose it has become such a habit it's difficult not to without feeling guilty. I did attempt to read 'The Cricket on the Hearth' many moons ago but it's technically a 'fairy' story as opposed to a 'ghost' story so it never appealed to me and ..... after 59 years it still doesn't!
