this movie is the reason i kept my bale icon through various icon trims: the dark knight

Jul 28, 2008 15:07

So, The Dark Knight was pretty much everything I was expecting/hoping it would be.

That is, a damn well-crafted movie that is better than Batman Begins (haha, I just typo'ed "Barman Begins" - reboot of Tom Cruise's Cocktail, anybody?) and bleak and dark as fuck. And at the same, as overwhelming and powerful and incredible as it was as a movie ( Read more... )

Aww maaaaaaaaan. Our tastes clash so hard when it comes to these types of movies. :(

3. Whut nooooooo, she was the best part!
4. I want them both out. But people might burn my house down if I said that out loud.
5. It's the new Fight Club fo' sho. Kids these days, they just want you to smile more.
10. I wanted to stab mysel! And my loved ones to save them from having to watch it.
11. Aww man I wish we had that trailer. :( 'Cause I might have liked it more than TDK.
12. And God bless them for that.

:( We should probably watch Krrish together - Indian superhero movie! - to see if we feel similarly about that.

3. I don't know, she was kind of in Harvey's shadow. Essential for sure, okay as a character but no special feelings, and that sucks because she was like the only female character in the whole film.

4. Nolan is just pretty solid. I kind of enjoy his twisty non-Batman works more (Prestige, Memento) but overall, diggin' it.

Hey, naroona is still faithful to Burton and hasn't seen Batman Begins. You're not alone ( ... )

The moment where I had the "...He's dead" thought was when he was with Harvey/Two Face in the hospital and had the gun up against his head.

But that went away because he was so fucking amazing, it blows my mind to think he was anything but the Joker. Like, who is this Heath Ledger? I know only the Joker.

Ugh, Hellboy. Do not want.

However, want Watchmen nao nao nao nao NAOOOOO.

I know, it is a bit like that with this performance. Not the same guy I saw in 10 Things I Hate About You (aww I love teen romcoms like that!) and Brokeback Mountain and what have you.

And that sort of makes me sad because oh god, he could've gone on to do some great things after this role. Siiiiiigh.

HELLBOY IS AWESOME. The banter on the trailer was so cute and I just ..really want to see it. I didn't love the first movie but it is one of the better comic book movies.

We didn't get Watchmen trailer, sure, rub it in. :(

Couldn't read because of spoilers but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've heard a lot of good things about this movie, and that the Joker is scary as fuck.

Oh he is, terrifying. I had to literally remind myself this was just a character in a movie.

Glad I'm not the only one who drew parallels between this and Fight Club. Must be the anarchy and the fun of just destroying the system themes running through both. I think ultimately when people grow tired of how life works, accumulate endlessly, that kind of philosophy is going to be appealing no matter how superficially some people may view it.

I think the only true downside to this movie is the relentless hype that will eventually sour everything. Such is life.

Yay, braintwins! *high five*

The thing about Fight Club was that in the end I think the movie was just a plain drama/dark comedy based on an awesome book that took those themes a little more in-depth but still no political manifesto deep. On the other hand, there's nothing 'bad' about the concept of Fight Club ...until it turns into Project Mayhem, I guess.

The anarchy in Joker's vision of the world, however, is selfish and inhumane and assumes the worst of people. Which is why it kind of disturbs me that people would lift the character to that idolized status in pop culture.

And yeah, I'll be interested in seeing how this movie is considered in say, 8-10 yrs' time when the hype dies down.

Do I ever tell you often enough how much I love you? You really nailed a lot of my feelings on this one.

And at the same, as overwhelming and powerful and incredible as it was as a movie experience, I would not want to rewatch it, probably ever. Maybe in 2018. Maybe.

Thank you! I walked into the movie super-excited and walked out scared to death. I really think it was a brilliant, amazing film but my god... it was so disturbing, so intensely terrifying that if I ever get to the point where I can watch it comfortably, I think I really would be jaded beyond the point of return. It was the third time for the friends that I went with, and I just don't understand how they can watch it so many times. I definitely do not want to see it again. This is probably the scariest film I have ever seen, slasher flicks have nothing on the kind of psychological terror I experienced watching TDK.

3. Yes! While I appreciated MG's twist on the character (Rachel was certainly more saucy and playful this time around) as opposed to trying to ( ... )

No problem, glad we are in agreement. :D

I also don't understand repeat watchers of this movie. Maybe if you're a comic geek big on the Batman, you can sort of detach yourself from the story and the psychology of it all and through that, enjoy it without being like "oh shit oh shit oh shit what's gonna happen" but yeah.
