OOTP film review - so glad i haven't forgotten my HP love.

Jul 17, 2007 00:28

So, that Order of the Phoenix movie I promised myself I wouldn't spend money after that cringefest that was fourth movie (mind you, 2nd and 1st movies still the worst but that last scene in fourth movie? dead to me).

I'm glad I spent money on it after all.

In short? It was like a real movie. And? It was like a REAL book-to-film film.

getting more spoilerous so here i go. CAPSLOCK and incoherency because that's what OOTP is all about.. )

We in the HP fandom have missed you HINT HINT HINT ;)

But yes! Luna/EVERYONE! Luna is love!

And I agree that they did such a better job on this one translating it, especially with the use of CANON instead of "let's invent a scene/characterization at the expense of canon!" Especially with Hermione. Especially with butchering Ron to prop up movie!Hermione. Very pleased with them this time around, aside from Emma needing to learn acting with more than her eyebrows ;)

Oh god yes her eyebrow acting is what bothered me. When she was smiling or just like, doing a regular expression, it was okay.

Me and my friend were discussing how Ron's sense of humor is quite a British thing, so perhaps its awesome escaped Kloves or something. Is he coming back to do 6th film? If he is, I will cry tears. After this movie, I just want them to continue doing this goodness and not go back to doing movies which I review with, "Okay this this that this that this this that that this this sucked, but I quite liked this, squeed at this and this, and wanted to kill this and that scene". With here I was at a loss when it came to voicing criticisms.

Maybe it was a fanservice movie for the books fans only, maybe it was just friggin' ace.

Luna was SO AMAZING. i LOVE her in the book, and i was worried what she would be like in the movie, and OMFG THEY LOVE ME CAUSE SHE WAS PERFECT!!

(i too ship Harry/Luna in my heart, but because i know it shall never be just like my Harry/Hermione i wouldn't mind if Nevil got her ( ... )

People are saying this wasn't according to the book? WTH. Given, I've not read OOTP as many times as I've read GOF (my fave!!) or HBP (because HBP has so much cute stuff, I just keep going back to it) because OOTP is ENORMOUS. But when I watched the movie, I thought it kept so well with the pace of the book and the events. They even had tiny cool stuff that they didn't HAVE to put it, like they could've totally ignored Neville and I thought they would, since that's been their style in the past, but they let the side characters shine as well and that ROCKED. And I love that they began with the Big D-feat-Harry-P-party-with-Dementors scene and it looked so gritty and almost realistic and I just adored it ( ... )

Yay! Welcome to the "We're Sane and Realized OoTP Film Is Awesome" Alliance!!!

Also, I hear you on Harry/Luna. Even though I'm not dying for a romantic relationship between the two, they're so awesome together because Luna's stoicism is the perfect balance to Harry's crazy emotional self.

Yeah, I love H/L as anything - as a platonic chemistry they work very well together, as a romantic connection they're just plain hot, whatever works.

Eee, thanks for badge. People are hating this movie? And they're book fans? Does not compute for me.

HIS ACTRESS IS SO PERFECT. Where did they manage to find her?

So apparently at the auditions for the new cast in this movie, a fangirl shows up and tells the director: "No one understands Luna like I do omg!" She was so enthusiastic and passionate that they cast her as Luna. BEST DECISION EVAR!

But apart from that, I just have to comment on the awesomeness of Ron. YES, this is the Ron we've all been waiting for, who is funny and stalwart and a little dense without resorting to lame jokes and silliness. I loved him here. And OMG LUNA. I love Luna so much, and I seriously thought she and Harry would get together in book 6, so you're not alone there. And I wish there had been more Bellatrix, because Bella = UNF UNF EVIL HOTTNESS.

My complete thoughts: http://plazmah.livejournal.com/213400.html

Usually I'm not for fangirls in acting things but omg, this crazy Lunafanatic did a magnificent job. I adored her so much.

Bellatrix was crazyevilhot. In the books she was just crazyevil but I guess Helena Bonham-Carter just brings that extra sazz into the role. Her crazy laugh was to die for.

And yep, Ron was Ron. That's all there is to say, really. He was finally RON.

Eee, thanks I'll go read your thoughts.
