Since Jamie and I have broken up, I've been making a mental list of the things I don't want to have to compromise in myself in my next relationship, and also of the things I'd like in a partner, I guess. Not that I'm actively looking, it's just that Jamie and I had almost nothing in common, and I compromised a lot of myself for him

if you're moving to portland, i am coming with! :) it sounds like a grand time. i am trying to get out of maryland too. i actually love break-ups for the very reason you stated - it allows you to get an idea of what you don't want in the next relationship you get into. i definitely appreciate that aspect of it. good luck with all your amazing plans!
