Broke With Un-showable Range

So I'm a little disappointed. The auditions for the Dining Room are going to be held as group cold reads. Not the best way for an actor to show their range. And for that play, range and talent are what the director should be looking for, not necessarily the best initial cold read. It also is a sign of how the director is going to be with actors. Most Domino auditions are cold group reads, unfortunately, but I do like the Dining Room director - I've been in two of her shows. It's a true exception when someone does auditions with monologues.

If she holds her previous pattern for auditions, she'll do cold reads, but then she'll ask the actors to do the scene in completely different ways (many of which will have nothing to do with the actual scene) to see how versatile and open to suggestion the people auditioning are. I always have a lot of fun at her auditions because I find that interesting. You just have to completely let go of the meaning of the scene and go with what she wants you to express.
