Okay, so, here's my problem with Psych. There is such a thing as too much Shawn. In fact, there is such a thing as "Oh dear god I cannot stand this smug bastard anymore, I really want to change the channel" Shawn. When he is in every single scene, reciting the same crap and doing the annoying fake psychic thing over and over and over again, DEAR ( Read more... )

You have way too much time on your hands.

When you get the job at the library, you will have to leave the laptop at home.

Wow Katie, way to twist the knife in the backs of the shippers.

Right? To be fair though, I don't think Merlin is really aware of its online fandom. It knows about Merlin/Arthur, but I think that's it. Personally, I think Katie is a Merlin/Morgana shipper. Especially after hearing the commentary on episode 1x08.

Shawn doesn't bother me but I do think Psych has a bad case of focusing-to-much-on-the-main-character-itis. I could use some more stories about Gus and Lassie.

I'm a bit surprised to see that Arthur/Morgana isn't going to happen, the way the first series was written I thought that was all they were going to focus on. Merlin is already so far from many versions of Arthurian legend that I wouldn't have been surprised if that was the main ship. Oh well, not like it would matter to shippers, and I don't really care either way.

Psych definitely focuses on the main character too much. I know it was made back when Monk was at the top of its game and it was trying that sort of model, but Adrian Monk has so much more depth than Shawn Spencer that Monk is able to pull it off (or, well, it used to) while Psych fails horribly. It just feels forced when they try to give Shawn depth, especially if it wasn't there to begin with. I always find Lassiter's stories far more interesting than Shawn's. Also, I'd love an episode focused on Juliet that didn't deal with her thing for Shawn. The closest we got was the Christmas episode in season 2 when we got to see her family. Also, more Gus is always a good thing. I love eps centered around Gus.

I'm surprised about Arthur/Morgana too. The show was so obvious with their subtext that it bugged the crap out of me, so I thought they'd become canon for sure.

I like Psych but Shawn is definitely not my favorite character. I agree that he can be very smug and just annoying. There are certain things I like about him, and I enjoy seeing the darker sides of him explored in fic, but I'd like to see more of the other characters. This latest episode, I actually got a bit annoyed that he did his hijinks in the middle of the funeral. It just seemed disrespectful.

But luckily I adore Jules, Gus, Lassiter, and Henry. They're all so cool and adorable (ditto on Henry/Abby! I was giggling about that to myself as well. Haha, Shawn, your gf likes your dad more than you ( ... )

I pretty much agree with all of this. One dramatic aspect of Shawn's story that I do enjoy is his relationship with his father. That's one bit that the show gets so very right, but OH how Shawn frustrates me with his inability to give his father a chance. Henry loves Shawn so very much, and Shawn knows it but refuses to acknowledge it. He's so hell bent on proving that Henry's a horrible father, when in fact Henry keeps proving the opposite. He's flawed, certainly, but he's always loved Shawn with all his heart, and he's always been wicked proud of him. He's just too hard on him, and he has trouble expressing his feelings to him, and so Shawn gives him very few chances ( ... )

Wasn't Monk so good last night? nearly as good as in the beginning. So poigniant. I hope they start building up to an ending with the Trudy mystery instead of a season of mediocre eps and then one finale jam-packed with the mystery arch wrap up. I would be so pissed if it happened that way.

I can't believe you don't ship Artie/Claudia even a little XDD Actually what I can't believe is that other people already *do* and that there's fic. I haven't brought myself to read any of it though, because I ship them in a really weird way, like platonic-romantic and way down the line (we'e only had a few episdes after all, the dynamic may totally change). I'm into platonic-romantic codependancy ships, but most people like to go straight to romantic-romantic and that won't work for me for this ship. Or in fact for most of the ships i'm into.

I'll have to give Merlin a try someday, I've seen lots of people talking about it lately.

A big old YES to everything you said about Monk. I've stopped trusting in this show so much that I fear that's exactly what they'll do, but hopefully I'm wrong. Hopefully they'll start working on the mystery soon, or at least the last three eps. Or two, even. Just... don't cram it all into the finale without any buildup whatsoever this season. All the big revelations we've had were way back in seasons 1, 2, and 3, and the ones in season 3 were utterly ridiculous, so I'm hoping the show can clean that up. And if they bring back Dale the Whale (as they usually do in regards to the Trudy mystery), then I hope they bring back the original (Adam Arkin was so the definitive Dale the Whale for me. The third one was horrible. Tim Curry was okay, but... a little too over the top ( ... )
