In fact, there is such a thing as "Oh dear god I cannot stand this smug bastard anymore, I really want to change the channel" Shawn. I pretty much agree with all of this. One dramatic aspect of Shawn's story that I do enjoy is his relationship with his father. That's one bit that the show gets so very right, but OH how Shawn frustrates me with his inability to give his father a chance. Henry loves Shawn so very much, and Shawn knows it but refuses to acknowledge it. He's so hell bent on proving that Henry's a horrible father, when in fact Henry keeps proving the opposite. He's flawed, certainly, but he's always loved Shawn with all his heart, and he's always been wicked proud of him. He's just too hard on him, and he has trouble expressing his feelings to him, and so Shawn gives him very few chances.

Also, I am with you on Gus and Lassie being hotter than Shawn. Heck, even Henry is hotter. Shawn is so not my type.

As for Monk, I used to be insanely obsessed with that show back in the Sharona days. That was actually my very first fandom. It took me YEARS to warm up to Natalie. Sometimes I love her, and other times I wonder why the heck she's even there, so I have mixed feelings for her. Anyway, the Monk/Trudy story has always been so beautifully done. I can't even count the number of times his devotion to her has made me tear up. It's even made me all-out cry on a few occasions.
