I am so addicted to these things. Okay, these are stolen from
scullybabe626. They looked too awesome to pass up.
The Fandom as a Lover meme:
The one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it:
Monk. I still love Monk dearly, but my main draw to the show was the Monk/Sharona relationship. You have no idea how passionate I was about that ship. It was a long shot, yes, but that's what made it so interesting. And they were totally setting it up from the pilot episode, but then the writers saw how passionate the Monk/Sharona shippers were and how adamently against it the non-shippers were, so they came right out and said that it would never happen, which I refused to believe since they had so many shippy episodes. But then they started pushing Sharona/Disher, which I absolutely hated because they kept coming up with scenerios to take Sharona away from Monk and have her partner with Disher and Stottlemeyer with Monk. That's okay for one episode, but when you mess up the partnerships like that for a whole season the dynamics that made you love the show so much in the first place are totally thrown out of whack, and the season ends up sucking. *cough season 3 cough* And then Bitty Schram got greedy and the producers fired her, so that was the end of Sharona. :'( The show hasn't been as enjoyable ever since she left. On the plus side, they put Disher and Stottlemeyer back together for all of their scenes, and that made the show feel right again. And Natalie is an okay character. I hated her at first, but once she got used to Monk they slipped into a comfortable friendship. But I do not ship them in any way, shape, or form. When she first started, the writers were calling her Monk's new possible love interest, but there were no sparks between them whatsoever, so I'm glad they veered away from that.
The old flame you don't see very often anymore but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets:
Who's the Boss. Tony and Angela, such a great love story. And the show is a classic from my childhood that I will always have a soft spot for.
The mysterious dark gothy one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffeehouses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he was really fucking crazy:
Grey's Anatomy. I used to love this show. Majorly. But season 3 was horrocious (is that a word?). It sucked giant, hairy, sweaty balls. Meredith and Derek were just plain idiotic, George and that girl that he married were so blah, and the medical situations were getting even more ridiculous than they were before. And Denny was dead. :'( The only saving grace was Christina and Burke, and they freaking ruined that in the finale by having Burke going completely against character and just abandoning Christina at their wedding right when she was finally ready to fully commit. And of course we know now that Burke left because the actor got fired, but the show really suffered in quality because of that. And George/Izzie? WTF? I wouldn't have minded if there had been something there between them BEFORE Geroge got married, but the fact that Izzie slept with him after he got married pretty much just showed that she was jealous that George was spending all of his time with Callie. So really, Izzie is a selfish biatch, and Izzie/George are better as friends, creepy as lovers. But it doesn't matter now, because I figured out that this show is fucking crazy. Goodbye, Grey's Anatomy!
The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to fuck again although you're relieved he doesn't actually live in town:
Prison Break. I watched the first season and loved it, but then I missed a few eps in season 2 and was completely lost on what was happening, and the conspiracy just kept getting crazier and crazier, and I lost track of who was dead and who was still alive. I wouldn't mind going back to it though, but it's too much work to keep up with it.
The steady:
The Office, Ugly Betty (although my love for this one has been waning lately with all the Henry/Betty nonsense), 30 Rock, Monk, Psych, Flight of the Conchords, Extras
The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with:
Torchwood. I love Doctor Who, and I love Captain Jack Harkness, but the plotlines of Torchwood are utter crap, as is the acting, yet I still catch it every now and then purely because Jack is so damn drool-worthy. And all of my British internet friends are obsessed with it because they are all madly in love with John Barrowman. But it really is a very crap show.
The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with but ultimately you're just good buddies 'cause the friendship is there but the chemistry ain't there:
House. I've watched a few eps over the years, and the ones that I've seen I've enjoyed to an extent, but there was really never anything there to keep me coming back. House is an awesome character, but the show is just too medical mumbo jumbo for me. It didn't focus enough on the characters. So, the chemistry just wasn't there, but I do often think about giving it a chance.
The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool guy except it's never really gone anywhere:
Hmm, can't think of one! Usually I'm the one introducing fandoms to them.
The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at him and thinking, "Him? How the hell did he land all these cool babes?":
Star Wars. I will never understand the fascination with Star Wars. My family loves it. I remember when I was little my dad and my brothers would have Star Wars days where they would watch all three films in one day, and they did this pretty much every other weekend. And after they were done watching Star Wars, they would watch Spaceballs (now that one I enjoyed). But seriously, Star Wars is a total snoozefest for me, especially the newer ones.
The one your friend has fallen for like a ton of bricks and whom she keeps babbling to you about on the phone for hours, and you'd be happy for her except you know it's just going to end badly:
Well, I'm stumped once again.
The Shipper Whore meme:
Six Ships I Like:
1) Andy/Kelly [The Office]
2) Jack/Liz [30 Rock]
3) Daniel/Betty [Ugly Betty]
4) Chazz/Jimmy [Blades of Glory]
5) Stottlemeyer/Natalie [Monk] - This one's odd, I think I'm the only one who ships them
6) Lassie/Jules [Psych]
Three Ships I've Abandoned:
7) Rory/Marty [Gilmore Girls]
8) Monk/Sharona [Monk]
9) Murphy/Frank [Murphy Brown] - wow, I was stretching for that one. Such an old show now.
Three Ships I've Never Liked:
10) Henry/Betty [Ugly Betty]
11) Jim/Pam [The Office]
12) Shawn/Jules [Psych]
Two Ships That Have Piqued My Interest:
13) Andy/Karen [The Office]
14) Toby/Pam [The Office]
1. Why do you dislike #11 so much? (Jim/Pam)
Well, I don't hate them, I just find them to be incredibly boring. I prefer Jim and Pam as seperate entities. I enjoy Jim's scenes with Dwight or Michael or Andy much more than his scenes with Pam. And with Pam, I enjoy her interactions with Michael or Angela or Kelly or Dwight so much more than her interactions with Jim. Together they are both very self absorbed and immature. Not that I don't enjoy their pranks on Dwight, but they need that interaction with one of the quirky characters in order to be entertaining, otherwise they seem whiny and angsty. And this past season there was way too much focus on them. It was beginning to feel like the Jim and Pam show rather than The Office. Plus, I liked Karen better than I liked Pam (atleast I liked the Stamford Karen, didn't care for the Scranton Karen). Don't get me wrong though, I still adore season 3! It brought me the awesomeness that is Andy Bernard! Also, now that the angst is over between Jim and Pam, hopefully the focus will be able to shift back to the more interesting characters.
2. Who is someone you know that ships #13? (Andy/Karen)
Hmm, I don't know if anyone actively ships them. It's mostly just people having fun with fanfiction, but I know that Team Karen from the MTT boards is quite fond of the pairing.
3. What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3? (Daniel/Betty)
Their friendship keeps growing. Daniel eventually learns how take care of his own problems, but he still needs that approval from Betty that he's always so desperate to get. Betty learns how to accept help from others, especially from Daniel. Daniel starts having a serious relationship with a decent woman, but he just can't take that next step with her, and the woman realizes it's because he compares her to Betty. Daniel denies it. Betty gets her own column at another magazine and finally says goodbye to Daniel just as he's starting to realize that his feelings run deeper than friendship. Daniel desperately misses Betty. Betty gets engaged. This breaks Daniel's heart, because he's now sure that he loves her, but he refuses to ruin her happiness by letting her know, because he still feels unworthy of someone as wonderful as her. Betty starts wondering if she's marrying the right guy, then she gets cold feet on her wedding day and tells her fiance that it just doesn't feel right, she loves him but she's not in love with him. That night, she lies in bed wondering if she made a mistake. She thinks about Daniel and how much she misses him, and how her heart flutters when she thinks about him. So she goes to THE bridge at 5:00 in the morning, because she still can't sleep. She sees Daniel in his long black coat leaning against the rail and looking at the city. Betty's still in her pajamas, because, well... she's Betty, it just seems like something she'd do. A smile would sneak up on her when she recognized him, and she would put her hands in her coat pockets and quietly walk up to him and stand next to him, looking at the city, she wouldn't say anything. Daniel would look over at her and smile, and she'd look at him and smile. And then the screen would fade to black. That way there would be enough implication for the Daniel/Betty shippers that they ended up together, but it would be left up to interpretation, so the non shippers could argue that they didn't. The perfect ending. As you can tell, I've thought about this far too much.
4. Which is your favorite episode for #1? Try to pick just one. (Andy/Kelly)
Well, considering it's a ship that only exists in fanfic, I don't really have an answer for this. I guess I'd say Beach Games, because that's the only episode where they have ever actually spoken to each other. And Kelly was cheering for Andy during the hotdog eating contest!!!
5. How long have you been following couple #6? (Lassie/Jules)
Well, probably since the episode where Jules organizes a surprise party for Lassiter's birthday and she does everything she can to find out information about him. And she ends up inviting all of the criminals that he had arrested over the past 20 years because they were in a little black book that she found in his desk. And Lassie was angry at her, but I think he was touched by the sentiment too, and he's always had a soft spot for her ever since. And this past season had an episode where they were interrogating some kids and they kept arguing with each other in such an adorable way, and one of the kids asked them if they were married, hee. And then the other kid said, "No, she's way out of his league." Such a squee moment for me. This ship has absolutely no fanfic whatsoever, and that saddens me. It's all either Jules/Shawn or Jules/Gus. So very sad. I prefer Shawn/Gus to those, but that's probably because I'm a perv.
6. What's the story with #8? What made you stop liking them/caring? (Monk/Sharona)
Sharona left, so... not gonna happen. No use shipping a relationship that ended three years ago.
7. Which ship do you prefer - #2 or #4? (Jack/Liz or Chazz/Jimmy)
Oh, well that's easy. Jack/Liz. They belong together, even if Tina Fey refuses to acknowledge that fact. Chazz/Jimmy is just some fun for my pervy mind that enjoys imagining Will Ferrell with other men. I used to hate slash, but now I can't get enough of it.
8. You have the power to make one ship nonexistent. Choose from #10 or #12. (Henry/Betty or Shawn/Jules)
Henry/Betty, definitely. That romance is so contrived that I can't stand it. Henry is almost an exact copy of Betty, except he has no faults whatsoever. And Betty is pretty darn close to being infalliable. You put the two characters together and it's a total snoozefest. Their relationship has no substance, and yet the majority of the fandom is saying that they belong together and that Daniel/Betty is cliche and unrealistic. Well, isn't this show about taking a cliche and totally blowing it out of the water? And isn't this show about looking beyond physical differences? The mere fact that Henry looks just like Betty defeats that purpose. And the Betty/Henry thing is based purely on fantasy, hence why there is no substance there. They are like the cute high school couple who are only together because everyone thinks that's the way it's supposed to be. But Betty's relationship with Daniel is real. She fantasized about Henry saving the day and getting her the money to fly her dad to Mexico, but in the end Daniel was the one who came through for her, and Daniel did it because he cares about her deeply, not because he fantasized about being Betty's hero the way that Henry did. And they have real fights, and they have real moments of learning from each other, and their relationship is very adult, as opposed to Betty's relationship with Henry. Plus, it's way too early for Betty to have found her Mr. Right already. Plus, there's no way that Betty won't outgrow Henry the same way she did with Walter. Plus, I hate being called a moron for shipping Daniel/Betty, especially since in every single previous version of Ugly Betty, Betty always ends up with her boss. So yeah, get rid of Henry/Betty, please!
9. What interests you about #14? (Toby/Pam)
Well, I just really love Toby. And I love how he's so into Pam, but every time he tries to tell her or send her a signal, he either wimps out or she unknowingly rejects him. Just poor, miserable Toby being forever hopeful but knowing that he'll always be miserable is interesting to watch.
10. When did you stop liking #7? (Rory/Marty)
Never stopped liking them, I just gave up on them when Rory rejected poor, adoarble Marty because she was stupidly in love with Logan. Plus the show ended, so... not gonna happen.
11. Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the show? (Murphy/Frank)
No. They didn't totally reject the idea until about the second to the last episode, so it was all good.
12. What's a song that reminds you of #5? (Natalie/Stottlemeyer)
Er... Um... Beauty and the Beast? Maybe?
13. Which of these ships do you love the most?
At the moment it's Andy/Kelly. But once new shows start back up it will probably be Daniel/Betty again, unless The Office gives us some delicious Kandy scenes.
14. Which do you dislike the most?
Henry/Betty. I can't stress enough how much I hate this ship right now. Their scenes in the finale were so nauseatingly sweet that I had to change the channel. Blech, they seriously made me feel like I had to throw up. It's okay if they date for awhile, but please stop making their scenes so nauseating, and don't make the focus Henry and Betty. From the beginning the show has always been about the unique bond between Daniel and Betty, and I want it to stay that way.
15. If you could have any two of these pairings double date, who would it be?
Andy/Kelly and Jack/Liz. I would LOVE to see how much Andy and Kelly drive Jack and Liz crazy. Although, Liz might have fun singing show tunes with Andy.
16. Have #2 kissed yet? Elaborate if you'd like. (Jack/Liz)
Nope. Almost, but not quite. It was a fakeout, but it still made me squee.
17. Did #4 have a happy ending? (Chazz/Jimmy)
Yeppers! They will always be partners. And they will always have a slightly homoerotic tone between them.
18. What would make you start shipping #14? (Toby/Pam)
If Pam ever showed an interest in Toby.
19. If only one could happen, which would you prefer - #2 or #6? (Jack/Liz or Lassie/Jules)
Oh god, this one's hard! I've really gotten into Lassie/Jules, but they have an even less chance than Jack/Liz, especially since Jules and Shawn kind of kissed in the finale. I seriously doubt that either one will happen. Hmm. I guess I'll go with Jack/Liz, because seriously, they are destined for each other (so suck on that Tina Fey!)
20. You have the power to decide the fate of #10. What happens to them? (Henry/Betty)
Betty outgrows Henry. Henry somehow falls in love with Amanda. Betty falls in love with Daniel.
Wow! That took me a long freaking time! Of course, I stopped to read a fanfic, then I stopped to eat lunch, so that might be why it took so long.
