Don't need oil if you use enough bacon! r_transpose_p October 10 2008, 06:24:34 UTC
1/2 lb to 1 lb bacon
2 or 3 onions
lots of garlic
turmeric
coriander
cayenne
black pepper
basmati rice
several tomatoes
chicken stock
chicken
kale
carrots

Put heat on high, slice bacon into big chunks, throw in pan.

When there is a decent amount of melted grease, stir in a half teaspoon of turmeric, pinch of coriander, dash of cayenne, and generously grind in black pepper.
Stir.
Chop onions, throw in.
Stir. When onions get clear, crush garlic in.
When garlic smells good, throw in tomatoes.
Stir a bit
toss in rice, stir, briefly.
Add stock, water, carrots (in thick slices).
When rice is near done throw in kale and chicken.
When chicken is done, it is ready to eat.

Optional : beans of any sort.
Optional : Rosemary and lavender from garden. I put these in everything except Chinese food.

Smile as 9-year-old neighbor's kid loves it.

Can also use oil instead of bacon.

Really, most veggies go with this. Just remember not to fry kale.

The one exception is fennel. Fennel is tricky to cook with.

Fennel is just onion with a different flavour.

Yeah, a different flavor that is difficult to pair with certain other vegetables.

I am still learning which ones.

The kids wanted you to use wine rather than stock.

Oh true.

I like to pour a dash of red wine into ramen.

(I also like to add "dried cuttlefish jerky" to almost any asian soup. Mmmm, cuttlefish. Imagine beef jerky, but with a fish smell that puts squid to shame.)
