A Confusing Advertising Slogan

Dove Deodorant with moisturizer - it puts back what shaving takes away.

What? Hair?

Though supersniffles tells me that it makes perfect sense to a woman. Maybe my confusion is just a guy thing.

Dove's advertising agency wanted to go with the whole "prevents chafing" argument, but someone didn't like that idea, as it was not feminine enough.

And here we were hoping that it was a answer to the prayers of balding people everywhere.

Uh... the "hair" thing would have been my first guess, too. But then, as you know, I'm a rather atypical female. ;)

There's this banner ad that keeps popping up on Neopets, but I haven't seen it long enough to get a good look at it. It seems to be selling a razor for women... but it mentions vibrations, and has a catchphrase like "get the buzz," and something about it being "soothing." I'm really curious to figure out what exactly this thing actually is...

That's exactly what it is.... I'm not sure I understand it either.

I can't get the page to load properly; all I get is a frame, which gets bigger, with no content. Stupid web page.

Try it in Exploiter, if you care. I forgot it was h0rking in Firefox.

I know what they mean, I guess -- I mean, it's in the "moisturizing" name -- but I never really thought of shaving as taking away moisture. Then again, I don't shave nearly as much as some people, and I don't think I've ever done it without some kind of soft silkifying goop.

If it's a guy thing, I must be a guy.
Then again, I've not used a razon in...seven, I think, years, and that wonly the bits that showed outside the dress I was wearing to my cousin T's wedding.

Oddly, there was no family pressure to shave for my cousin J's wedding this summer; in fact, leg hair was declared more tasteful than purple tie-dye toe socks. Perhaps they've gotten used to it.

Have I told you lately, Nolly, how much I adore your fashion sense?

My understanding is that shaving takes off the top layer or three of skin (though it goes unnoticed) which would allow more water to evaporate/be perspired out of the skin. If you put a protective layer of good/lotion back on top, you may prevent said moisture loss. Unfortunately, any chemical applied to the legs to decrease hair growth will decrease hair growth (slightly) everywhere and we wouldn't want that!

As far as the vibrating shaver thing - doesn't a plain one do a good enough job for goodness sake? Here, lets take a silly task like de-hairing our legs and strap a damn motor on it! Look, I can be another consumeristic American and get something bigger and better that I DON'T REALLY NEED! Blah! So, there! Or, if you want a closer shave that takes less darned maintenance . . . . . . WAX it! :o)~
