Summary: One trip to the Old Forest sends Junsu and Changmin into another world full of mistakened myths and new realizations. A vampire's goal in life is to live for eternity and feed from the warmth of a human. If that is so, what is a werewolf's goal?

The day was dark, wet, and just plain nasty. Junsu never knew that there was a storm coming, so of course he wasn’t dressed for the horrible weather. The rain soaked right through the white shirt he was wearing and also drenched his pants; the ends of them were plastered with muddy water. His hair had already begun to annoy him. The dyed red strands now sticking to the back of his neck and light skin of his forehead was a nuisance.

“Hyung! Let’s just go back home,” complained Changmin who was also enduring the onslaught of Mother Nature. He held his books over his head to keep whatever rain from drenching his face, not that it was helping at all. “I just bought these shoes yesterday and they’re getting ruined!”

Junsu had to roll his eyes. “We’re in this rain and you complain about your shoes being dirty? Why not be normal and complain about how wet your clothes are.”

“Shoes are part of everyone’s attire and mine are soaked and dirty. I am not liking this!”

“You’re lame Changmin-ah.”

“Oh shut up hyung.”

Well it was true. Their books were soaked, they were soaked, Changmin’s precious shoes were soaked, and the rain didn’t seem to be ending soon. Junsu didn’t want to look up at the dark grey sky since the heavy droplets would probably pierce through his skin, injuring him for eternity. It was absolutely pouring.

“Fine, let’s go home,” said Junsu. “We’ll catch up tomorrow.”

Changmin let out a huge sigh of relief. “Good,” he murmured. “Now I can clean my shoes.”

“Moron.”

“Shut up.”

The two friends eagerly made their way back home, getting the trip down in less than ten minutes. They were practically dragging themselves through the rain just to get on campus, but now that there was to be no school for them, home was more of an exciting place. They stepped through their front door and pulled off their soaked shoes, rolling up the ends of their pants so they wouldn’t drip as much water onto the floor.

Junsu quickly pulled off his soaked white shirt which clung to his body and threw the garment over his shoulder. “I’ll take a shower first,” he said before heading for the bathroom. Changmin muttered something about cleaning his damn shoes.

Hot water was definitely much better than cold, heavy water. Junsu wanted to just lie in the bathtub and soak in the warm spray. It was so nice…

“Hyung! I need to shower too you know!”

Junsu realized that there was banging on the bathroom door. Reluctantly, he turned off the water and grabbed the towel from the nearby counter. “Hold on Min, I’ll be right out.”

There was a loud huff. “You’ve stolen all my hot water! What were you doing in there, jacking off?”

“Get a life nerd.”

“At least nerds don’t jack off in the shower!”

“I know they jack off behind the computer!”

“How would you know that? You’ve tried it?”

“No, but I injured my eyes when I caught a certain nerd in the library last weekend, hiding behind the computer desk, hand in his pants and eyes focused on the bright scree-“

“Just get out of the bathroom hyung!”

Junsu chuckled and enjoyed his victory. When he opened the door to see a flushed Changmin before him, he only patted his shoulder and continued on his way, saying, “Nothing to be ashamed of!” He then disappeared into his room. The familiar sound of the shower could be heard from behind the wall and Junsu couldn’t help but smile triumphantly.

When Changmin re-emerged from the bathroom twenty minutes later, Junsu had already thrown all his wet clothes into the hamper. He had Changmin throw his clothes in as well. “We’ll take them to the cleaners tomorrow morning,” Junsu said. “Do you have any morning classes?”

“No, my professor’s on vacation,” Changmin answered. “She won’t be back until next week. I’ll have this and next Friday off.”

“Good. Then you can work more.”

Changmin pouted. “And what about you?”

Junsu smiled. “I’ll be doing housework.”

“You always get to do that…” mumbled the youngest.

“Well, we both decided that I would be the ‘woman’ of the house while we lived here. I won’t mind giving you the job. Do you want it?”

Changmin quickly shook his head. “No thanks, I’ll work.”

“That’s what I thought.”

The two friends plopped themselves onto their small couch. Silence stretched on as the rain continued to poor outside.

“Hey hyung, do you have any plans for this weekend?” asked Changmin.

“No, why?”

“Some of my classmates were talking about going to the fall festival and it sounds fun.” Changmin’s eyes seemed to glow as he continued to speak with excitement. “They said there were rides there and tons of food!”

Junsu seemed to catch on. Anything with large amounts of food drew Changmin in like a hungry wolf to it’s prey.

“So, you want me to go?”

“Yes!”

“Well…I don’t think I’m doing anything. Where is it at?”

Suddenly, a crestfallen expression crossed Changmin’s face. He hesitated as he replied, “East Gate…”

Junsu’s eyes widened. “That’s on the other side of town!”

“I know!” Changmin started to whine. “But it sounds like huge fun and I really want to go! Please, will you come with me hyung?”

“Changmin,” Junsu groaned.

The youngest turned on his puppy-dog eyes. Junsu felt like smacking himself for being so gullible.

“Fine,” he mumbled.

. : : . : : . : : .

East Gate was full of rich kids and their rich families. Everything from huge, gorgeous mansions, to the tiniest diamond ring seemed to sparkle with wealth. Junsu and Changmin secretly despised the large amount of wealth everyone wanted to show off. It was sickening.

It was why they hardly came to East Gate in the first place. People here were snobs and stuck up brats with no respect at all. The festival flourished here of course, inviting huge amounts of people to flock and have fun. Most of the people were rich though, and for that Junsu and Changmin kind-of hated the fact that they were there today.

That feeling disappeared though, after vast amounts of cotton candy and endless spinning rides. Junsu wondered how Changmin kept all that sugar contained in his stomach. The guy really did have a void underneath that tan skin which Junsu sometimes envied. At that moment though, he did not. He felt the elephant ear trying to surface once again, but he carefully held it down. He and Changmin were sitting underneath a huge oak tree, catching their breath as well as controlling their stomachs. The sun had set hours ago. They’ve been at the festival since ten in the morning and now Junsu was tired. His legs were sore and his feet ached.

“Hey hyung,” Changmin breathed after a few more minutes. “I have something else to show you before we leave.”

“What? Minnie, I’m exhausted…”

“I know, I know, but you’re going to love this! I heard some of the rich kids talking about this place when I was standing in line. Apparently, there’s this abandoned cottage in the middle of the woods that nobody dares to go. They say that there are ghosts of a small family and ravenous monsters lurking there since the beginning of the century!”

Junsu felt shivers shoot up his spine. He knew what Changmin was going to say next.

“Let’s go check it out.”

Junsu glared at his friend.

“HELL NO.”

. : : . : : . : : .

“Shim Changmin, I hate you.”

“Yeah, yeah you always say that.”

“You are so dead when we get home.”

“Mhm.”

Junsu wanted to punch Changmin hard across the face. Of course he gullied up to the guy once again and was now following said-guy towards the edge of the forest. An eerie darkness covered the sky. A dark blue fading into blackness blanketed the earth. Junsu could barely see Changmin in front of him and was constantly pulling on the other’s shirt to make sure he wouldn’t lose him.

“People said this was called the Old Forest,” Changmin said once they reached the edge and began to dodge branches and large roots. “They said this forest has been here since the beginning of time, and that monsters live here.”

“Oh please Min, you can’t believe that.”

“Why not?” Changmin asked and Junsu could sense the smirk on his face. “It’s more fun to live life that way.”

“You’re a moron.”

“Yes, I’ve been told.”

“We aren’t staying here fore long. If I don’t see a cottage in the next seven minutes we’re turning back.”

“Well, I guess we should hurry up then.”

Changmin grabbed Junsu’s hand suddenly and began pulling the other behind him at a quick pace. Junsu growled in irritation, but was silenced by the sudden fear that he was in a forest, in the dark, in the middle of richville, and with Shim Changmin as a guide.

Yeah, he was screwed.

Five minutes passed and still no sign of a cottage. It was completely dark now and Junsu was shivering.

“Stop freaking out Su, we’re almost there.”

“How would you know that?” the redhead hissed.

Changmin didn’t answer. He pulled Junsu along and the latter winced as he felt a sharp branch scratch his skin.

“Changmin, I think I’m bleeding…”

“You’ll live.”

Another three minutes passed. The silence save the loud thumps of shoes hitting leaves and earth was deafening. Junsu felt cold, eerily cold. He just wanted to turn around and leave this dark forest.

He cursed Changmin’s stubborn personality quietly.

“Here we are!” the youngest suddenly exclaimed as he pulled Junsu into a very small clearing. Junsu peered forward, unable to see any cottage or anything resembling one. Moments later though, his poor night vision adjusted and the moss-covered, cracked outline of a wooden door was oddly visible. Fear gripped Junsu’s heart tenfold as he stared at the old, rotting structure with tiny windows and broken limbs.

“This is so cool!” Changmin said as he admired the cottage. “Let’s look inside.”

“No!” Junsu snapped. “Hell no! Changmin, I came only to see it, not venture in it! We’re leaving right now-”

But Changmin had already left his grasp and was walking toward the front door; Junsu could hear the heavy feet padding upon the old earth.

“Changmin!” he called out, suddenly feeling very afraid and vulnerable. “Changmin-ah, come back!”

“Just one peek hyung,” said the youngest, oblivious to Junsu’s fears. “I’ll be right back.”

“NO! Get BACK here!”

Junsu heard the rotted door creak open in a loud, sickening way. The wind suddenly whipped around him and Junsu freaked. He shot forward, grabbing onto the back of Changmin’s shirt and huddled close to him. “Don’t fucking leave me!” he hissed, heart racing and body trembling.

“You’re a wuss hyung,” Changmin laughed.

“Shut the hell up!” snapped the older of the two. “I know where you fucking sleep at night!”

Changmin chuckled again and shook his head in disbelief. He then continued opening the old door of the cottage all the way until the murky blackness of the inside met his vision. Junsu buried his face into the back of Changmin’s neck, his fears making him unable to look up anymore.

Changmin took one step forward when they heard it.

A loud, eerie howl.

Junsu shrieked, yanking on Changmin’s shirt and pulling him closer to his shaking body. Changmin slapped his hand over the loud mouth and glared dangerously into the other’s eyes. “Will you shut up Su!” he growled, sounding very annoyed. “Stop being such a wimp!”

“I.want.to.leave.NOW.”

Changmin rolled his eyes. “Come on-”

“NOW!”

“Fine!” Changmin hissed. He grabbed Junsu’s shaking hand and pulled him away from the door, all the while murmuring how much of a wimp his closest friend really was. Junsu said nothing more though, and deep down, Changmin felt a bit guilty for taking Junsu into the forest in the first place. He tightened his hold on his friend’s hand and was leading him out of the small clearing when a loud, vicious snarl echoed close by.

Junsu jumped in fright while Changmin froze in terror. There was shuffling to their right and leaves crunching loudly to their left. Junsu pressed his body as close as possible against Changmin as they slowly backed up toward the old cottage again. More loud snarls and growls echoed amongst the trees, and suddenly Junsu and Changmin were facing a pack of hungry, vicious animals.

The most fearful part of this situation…was that they didn’t know what kind of animal was surrounding them.

Junsu was too afraid to even mutter a whimper. His body was paralyzed with fear. Deep down, he wanted to bash Changmin on the head for bringing him here in the first place but that was probably the farthest thing from his mind now. The thought that they were about to be eaten by large, hungry beasts was definitely carving it’s way into Junsu’s heart and instincts were screaming at him to bolt and try to escape.

That was not possible though. More of these creatures were now stepping up from behind the two humans. Changmin shifted so his back pressed against Junsu’s. He would not let go of his friend’s shaking hand.

Snarls ripped from the beast’s throats as they continued to circle their prey. The wind whipped about, blowing dead leaves into the air and forcing Junsu’s red bangs to flutter against his face. Changmin’s long brown hair tickled the redhead’s shoulders.

Junsu jumped when he saw shiny white teeth snap in his direction. He pressed himself even closer to Changmin.

“Su…” he heard the youngest whisper. Junsu sensed the cold fear in his name. Instinctively, Junsu wanted to grab Changmin and shield him from the hungry beasts, but that was not possible. He couldn’t even move his lips.

Loud growls snapped all around them. Junsu felt Changmin’s body tighten even more with terror. The redhead gripped his friend’s hand and silently prayed that they would somehow survive this terrible night.

The moment the first creature stepped closer to the two humans, his prayers were answered. A fierce gust of wind tore through the clearing and another snarl, deeper like the thunder of a storm, crackled around them. Vicious howls tore through the sky when suddenly a blur of white appeared in front of Junsu. Warmth pressed against the tip of his nose, and Junsu’s eyes widened when he realized that someone’s back was pressing against him. He could feel that person’s hair grazing his forehead. Junsu looked up, but could see no face, only the back of someone’s head.

More howls echoed through the air as the wind lashed about. Another snarl of thunder and suddenly the hungry beasts could be heard running away from the clearing. The heavy crunching of leaves sounded like heaven to Junsu’s ears, and the biggest wave of relief washed over his body. The wind died down as he continued to stand there, pressed between to warm bodies.

When the body in front of him turned around, Junsu felt his knees buckle. He waited for the ground to slam into his body, but that never happened. Something firm steadied him, and what felt like an arm wrapped around his waist.

Junsu looked up to see someone’s face. He couldn’t tell where anything else was. Then an unfamiliar, new voice greeted his ears.

“What the hell are you two doing out here?” He sounded severely angry and pissed off to no end. It was an accusing sound.

Junsu didn’t know how long the silence stretched on, but then Changmin was speaking quietly.

“We…we were just…looking for this…place…”

The weak voice was full of fear. Junsu wanted to reach out and hold his friend, but felt really out of it at the moment.

“Yeah, well, this forest is off limits,” snapped the new voice, sounding cold and fierce. “No one is allowed back here. Hopefully now, you realized why.”

“We didn’t know…” Changmin said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Junsu heard the new person sigh heavily when suddenly he had his arm wrapped around a firm neck. He didn’t realize he was walking forward until the familiar scratches of tree branches scrapped against his face.

“W-w-where…w-what a-are we d-d-doing?”

“I’m leading you two out of this forest, so walk.”

Junsu felt no anger toward the disrespectful voice. “W-where’s M-minne?” he had to ask.

“Beside me.”

“Don’t worry Su…I’m here…” Changmin sounded like a ghost.

No one spoke since then. Minutes later, Junsu saw the glow of the city lights peeking in between the tree branches and suddenly he was out of the forest and walking through damp grass. He glanced to his left to see a new face, hidden by the shadows. He could see the pale skin and dark eyes, but the sharp outline of the man’s jaw was clearly visible. Beside that new face was Changmin.

Junsu had never before seen his friend so pale in his entire life.

“Can you two handle it from here?” asked the other man as they walked further away from the forest.

“Yes,” Changmin answered in a somewhat confident tone.

The arm holding Junsu’s waist left him and the familiar grip of Changmin replaced it. His own arm then wrapped around the youngest’s neck.

“Don’t ever come here again,” said the man before turning sharply and disappearing from view.

It was a threat.

Junsu couldn’t remember if they even thanked the man. Changmin just led him back to their car, strapped him to the passenger’s seat, and blasted the radio the whole way back home.
