The more I think about it, the more I am sure that TV series writers will never be as strict about detail and canon as fans ...

I enjoyed the episode, too, and not least because of David Bradley. I think he's all sorts of brilliant.

You're right. Show writers just don't put anything like that level of thought into canon details, clearly. Book writers either. "I just Obliviated my parents' every memory of me." A few pages later. "Well, I only know the theory ..." *headdesk*

Or possibly I meant an entirely different actor, the one who played Rory's Dad. Didn't recognize Filch at all.

It's Doctor Who -- pesky things like laws regarding painkillers and logic are ignored if they don't fit into the story. ;)

I seriously doubt their laws there are much different than here.
