Grrrr! Arrgh!

Still no nursing job. The class behind us was apparently advised not to bother looking for jobs and just to apply for transition-to-BSN programs. One of my classmates looks like she's going to be working in NC, and she was the most aggressive person I've spoken to yet in terms of applying for absolutely every possible position in-state. I'm ( Read more... )

So you are a nurse but with no job? WTF??? Here in Australia they are screaming out for nurses. ever think of relocating?

Yes, I know all about the woes of having an old car, I traded him in (only got $100 for him) last year and I still miss him.

And yeah for making the con, I shall hopefully see you there.

Love Sonia :)

If not for family stuff, I'd be up for relocating. See you at the con!

Boo to no nursing jobs around you. Major boo.

Even more boo to your car.

But YAYAYAYAY to Aeternitas! If you need a place to crash let me know. I might not be there, but Geoff doesn't bite. Not even when asked.

To be fair there are some jobs. They just don't want new grads, or else they want their new grads to have a BSN.

Thanks for the offer! I already have roomies set up for the hotel, but it's nice to have a backup in case I annoy them. :D

Car problems are guaranteed to make me crazy. It's like without a set of wheels you can't get a job or get to the shopping. Sometimes I think all this subdivision stuff is "not so good." I can remember when every neighborhood had small grocery and a little hardware and tack store. And there was a "dime store" and a drug store not to far away.

I hope you're able to get a car soon, and can go to Aeternitas. I know several people who are going, and they're all excited.

Boo-hiss for no nursing job. All this talk about cutting way back on funding for Medicare and Medicaid can't be helping the situation any. We're in a right mess now until the "boys in D.C." get it together... and maybe then we'll be in an even bigger mess. I don't think I'll ever be able to retire.

Enough of that for now. Here's wishing you good luck at this next Career Expo.

Yes, and there's nothing approximating decent public transit around here. The buses are better than when we first moved here, but still not reliable enough or with extended enough schedules for the kinds of hours I tend to work.

I do think that the national health care debate is part of it, but another chunk is simple New England snobbery: they've all started competing for "magnet hospital" status, which requires that most of your nurses be BSNs rather than ADNs. Meanwhile, I learned a couple of days ago that Miami hospitals will put a down payment on your house if you sign a three-year contract. Wish Miami was a viable option, but it's really not, for a number of reasons.

Thanks for the luck! I'll take all I can get.

Experienced nurses are in demand. New nurses with BSN degrees are in slighly more demand than new nurses with ADN degrees. And in various regions, you can get all sorts of incentives to move there because they're so desperate. Not, however, in New England.
