What manner of idiocy is this? They even acknowledge that BMI as an isolated measure is not a reliable indicator of health, but hey, they'll use it anyway, 'cause it's easy. *facepalm ( Read more... )

I join you in a fortissimo WTF chorus. That has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. If he wants to encourage healthy employees, why not give all employees discounts on fruits and veggies? And using BMI as a measure is intrusive and sexist. Thank you, Bristol Farms, for giving me another source for pancetta!

Crud, if I could afford more fruits, veggies and whole-grain stuff, I bet I'd be losing weight even faster than I am now. Logic fail.

I so wish we had a Trader Joe's around here!

Even worse, it's based on absolute crap science, since it is entirely possible for a person to be high BMI and yet have low cholesterol and blood pressure, or for people to be very low BMI and yet have inherited conditions that cause hypertension or high cholesterol, and let's not even get started with the variables introduced by sex, ethnicity and the quirks of everybody's personal biology..

Exactly.
