Haha, you are so right. There is just a little life-size statue inside of a rifle with a helmet on it, and an eternal flame I think. It was designed by the English architect who also planned New Delhi. It does make it onto many internet lists of triumphal arches, actually, now that I look.
That first shot is utterly fantastic! Are there pretty much consistent airborne pigeons around there, or did your dad wait for that shot? (I'm assuming those are pigeons.)
Also I love the atmosphere of the packed out market. Brilliant.
My dad just took an amazing shot, somewhat inadvertently I think. At least he doesn't have the same artsy pretensions about his vacation photography that I do. (Maybe that helps!) :) There were lots of pigeons but that was just the right moment, and he caught that one man walking away too ...
The market was amazing! I tried to get some photos of all of the places where the shop contents were hung out into the alley too, over the crazy nests of electrical wires and hung from shop awnings and such, but they all came out super blurry. Alas.

It makes me happy people enjoy them, and they help me feel less cranky when work sucks, heh.

Also: wow does that memorial ever look like a triumphal arch.
