Mr Kapusta - August 2020 to January 2021 Update

Jan 30, 2021 10:00

So I thought it was about time I did another Kapusta update (I'm not feeling too great at the moment, this is a scheduled post, and having already drafted it, I didn't want to cancel. Please bear with if I'm a bit slow in responding to any comments).

This year Lj gifted me with this assessment of my inadequacy:

Good lord you've got so much going on! Just take care of yourself and don't overdo things.

I've got so much planned - whether any of it is 'going on' is a whole other ball game! :0)

That is a lot on your list.

Hope you get around to doing everything you set out to do.

What a lovely surprise to see you mention Visions and noblesentiments! It's lovely to know that you're still reading them, thank you so much for that. And yes, you've been incredibly busy.

I have a couple more 'visions' posts pinned that I want to read. I try and read the associated stories as well, because - my own humble offerings aside - you always pick such interesting reads.

Visions and noblesentiments are always on my list, because even if you haven't posted, trawling through the archive always yields gems.

Thank you again! I always hope that people will use Visions for browsing rather than feel they have to read all of the stories religiously. And I must stress that not all the stories are necessarily personal favourites (unlike the ones at noblesentiments which are)but chosen for all kinds of reasons.

I think the visions posts do come across as works of curation rather than a series of personal recs. And they very much stand on their own feet as works in their own right - but it is a nice way to find fics I haven't read before.

I am also trying (and failing) to organise and store sensibly all kinds of things. I do manage to remember what I've watched and read because I religiously do a monthly review so I suppose the lists are on my Wordpress blog. And all my writing is there, on AO3 or published with Amazon KDP and Smashwords. So maybe my words will survive, even if I don't! Try doing something really limited - half and hour a week as an example. Most weeks you'll actually spend more than half an hour and even a lot of half hours add up to a respectable amount of time. You do seem to have more fic written than I remembered - yes, I checked your AO3 - but then only some of our fandoms overlap. *cheers you on*

There might be more fic than either of us think, because I have an FF.net account too and I don't cross-post between them.

The only cross-posting I do is archiving things I've shared on various Lj comms - but there's stuff from years ago I haven't archived yet (case in point).

I do want to share some original fiction, but I'm not sure where best to do that. FF.net have an original fic archive, I have been thinking about that - but I haven't really got enough original fic to worry about at present - so it's a bit of a moot thought.

I do try with the getting into a routine thing, but my health isn't always inclined to play ball, and neither is my despair squid of a job. But it's good advice, nonetheless.

AO3 accept original fic if it has fannish tropes or is vaguely inspired by, etc. Look at the 'rules' and see whether your stuff fits!

I'll check that out - thanks :0)
