A Beautiful Aftermath

So "The Storm" is over and many other places that weren't here got blasted.  Most of it missed us.  What we did get was the beautiful aftermath and there are two kinds.

The first is The Morning Kind where it's been howling and screaming outside the bedroom window all night but when you wake up it's quiet and brilliantly sunny outside.  It's like ( Read more... )

Thanks for the imagery.

There are a few reasons I live in the North. Crisp, clear mornings with fresh snow are one of them.

I may feel the cold more as the years pass, but I still love winter. I don't think I could live someplace without snow and beautiful cold, clear, crisp, still nights.

I think I might get used to it. Really. Honest. A beach in maui sounds pretty good right about now.

Aruba.

A mix of arid and tropical conditions on the same island, thanks to a near-constant tradewind out of the west. Lovely warm temperatures without being humid. Beautiful beaches. Friendly people. If I could afford it, it's where I'd expatriate to someday. (You have to be able to prove financial solvency if you want to immigrate... basically, that you either have enough money that you won't be a drain on the state, or that you're filling a position which isn't taking a job away from a local.)

Too far away from family (all family from Maui now gone) couldn't get all animals there with any degree of... anything. Not a sovereign nature, not in Canada. So basically a February pipedream. But a nice one.

That clear night sky is one of the most magnificent things about living away from a large city.

I'm not fond of cold. But I love sunny winter days, especially when there's lot of snow to make the day even brighter. And starry winter nights, when the snow makes the night clear enough to see for walking, and so very quiet.

(Whenever I think that I'd enjoy the peace and darkness of rural nights, I remember well water, and decide that I can live with city lights and noise.)
