“Are you sure you can eat?” Nick asked carefully.

Greg was leaning his elbows against he table and sighed. “I think so. I don’t have
anything left to throw up.” He took the menu. “What are you gonna have?”
“Pancakes and coffee.” Nick folded his menu. He waved the waitress to their table.

”I’ll have… just coffee and toast.” Greg ordered. “Better play it safe.”
Nick repeated his order and the waitress left them alone.

“You know what’s funny about all this?” Nick mused.
“Everything.”
“Yeah, but I mean the fact that you were supposed to stay in my place, and after
this whole thing you ended there anyway.”
“Must be destiny.”
“I guess.” Nick’s eyes were fixed on the cover of his folded menu. “You know…
I was really disappointed when I thought you just called it all off.”
“Really?”
“What else was I supposed to think? You didn’t return my mails, and I didn’t hear
a word from you. And we were really hitting it off on-line.”
“I remember that.” Greg smiled.

“You do?”
“Yeah, and other stuff too. About my life. It’s all in little pieces, but
I remember them. Except the accident.”
“Do you remember that day?”
“Some parts of it. I remember mailing you about my plans and how you send me
your address. And that I was going somewhere that night, but that’s about it.”
“What about afterwards?”
“Nothing.”

The waitress came to bring their food and they focused on eating.
“Now that we’re on the topic….”
“Yeah?”
“What do you think would have happened? If I had come here back then?”
“I don’t know. Hopefully we would have been as compatible as we were on-line.”
“So we’re not compatible now?”
“That’s not what I meant. I would have showed you the sight and things like that.
Not that the visits to hospital and a homeless centre weren’t interesting. You
never told me what it was like?”

“Being homeless or being without a memory?”
“Both.”
“I…. I really don’t wanna talk about it. I just wanna get my life back on tracks.
I need to call my boss and my mom and my friends….”
“They were probably worried sick.”

“Yeah.” Greg sighed and took a sip from his coffee. “I hate to say this when
you’re buying, but this is just awful.”
“I know.” Nick chuckled.
“Next time I come here I have to bring my own coffee.”
“Next time?”

Greg grinned and hid his face behind his mug. “Are going to work today?”
“No, I got the next three nights off.”

------------------------------------------------

“What do you do when you work nights?” Greg asked when they came back to
Nick’s apartment.
“Work?”
“I mean when you have night off. Do you stay awake anyway?”
“I try to keep the rhythm. It’s easier to get back to it.”
“So….. What are you gonna do now? It’s after seven.”
“Well….” Nick thought about it. “We could have a movie night. I could go rent a
movie and get some snacks.”
“That would be nice.” Greg smirked.

“Okay… any requests? What kind of films do you like?”
“I can’t remember….”
“That’s not funny!”
“I guess not…. I don’t care, everything goes.”
“There’s a rental down the street I’ll be back in twenty minutes.”
“Before you go…” Greg interrupted. “I got a question for you.”
“What?”
“You said we really hit it off when we were talking on-line.”
“Yeah.”
“How far do you think we would have gone if I had come here when I was
supposed to?”
“I don’t know, pretty far hopefully. I mean…. I didn’t mean-”

Greg interrupted Nick’s explanation by pressing his lips against Nick’s. After the
first wave of surprise wore off, Nick answered the kiss with equal enthusiasm.
Finally Greg had to pull away to breathe.
“Just so you know…. I would have done that even if I hadn’t known you before
all this.”

Nick was too out of breath to answer.
“Remember popcorn. I’m raiding your fridge, that toast doesn’t keep you full
too long.” Greg gave him a smack on his butt and marched to the kitchen.

------------------------------------------------

“Stokes.”
“Hey, bro. It’s me.” Warrick greeted. “Where are you?”
“In video rental, I’m picking up a movie.”
“Are coming for few beers, we’re going to Barry’s Bar.”
“I got a date. I mean I think it’s a date…”
“With who?”
“Remember my e-mail buddy?”
“The one who dumped you?”
“Yeah, that one. He’s in Vegas.”
“He avoided you for three months and now he showed up?”
“Well, he had a really good excuse for that.” Nick chuckled.
“Hopefully, or I’ll have to beat him up. Have fun.”
“Thanks.” Nick cut the call.
