Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 CSI Las Vegas Main List “What are you doing here?” Catherine asked when she walked to the locker room.
“I work here, remember? I think we have even worked together sometimes.” Nick
responded.
“I meant here, I thought you were supposed to work on that homicide with Greg.”
“I swapped with Warrick. I don’t Greg want’s to see me right now.”
“I would ask why, but here all things come out sooner or later.” Catherine snapped
her ringing cell phone open. “Willows. Speak of the devil… What do you mean
hospital? Oh… How bad is it?”
Nick had heard Catherine’s half of the conversation and he moved closer to listen.
“Okay, I’ll tell administration. You want me to send somebody to pick up your
samples? Okay. I’ll talk to you later.”
“What’s going on? Why’s he in the hospital?”
“Greg had a little accident at the scene. Warrick took him to the hospital and
brings his samples after they’re done.”
“What kind of accident? How bad is it?”
“I don’t think it’s too bad.”
“Do you think anyone notices if I leave now? I have just half an hour left
anyway.”
“You wrapped up your case?”
“Yeah, I’m going to the hospital.”
“Nick, Greg’s getting patched up, and there’s no reason for you to be
there.”
“I’m going there anyway.” Nick grabbed his back bag and rushed out.
------------------------------------------------------------
Warrick was relatively easy to find. He was sitting in the waiting area sipping
the horrible excuse for coffee that was available in the machine.
“Warrick?
“What are you doing here?”
“Catherine said Greg had an accident. How is he?”
“He’ll recover.”
“What happened?”
“We were going through the premises, the perp was still hiding in the area.
He tried to escape and pushed Sanders out of the way. He had his back to
him, so I don’t think he even realized what was happening.”
“How badly was he hurt?”
“He landed on top of some gardening tools, and his hand was in the middle.
A broken wrist and two fractured ribs. He was pretty lucky.”
“Lucky? Are you serious?"
“I am. The house was littered with drug paraphernalia, he was lucky he
didn’t land on used needles.”
“Okay… Where is he?”
“They put a cast on him, so now we’re just waiting for the paperwork so
he can leave.”
“Where is he?”
“Room 324, but I should probably tell you-”
“We’ll talk about it later.” Nick bounced down the corridor.
“Can’t say I didn’t try…” Warrick groaned.
------------------------------------------------------------
The scene in the hospital room was not exactly what Nick had expected. When
he walked into room 324, Greg was sitting on the bed, cradling his left hand
that was mostly covered with white cast. The real surprise was sitting on a
chair next to him.
“Mikey? What are you doing here?”
“What do you think? Warrick called me to take him home.”
“You got work meetings today, don’t you? I can take him.”
“Right. You don’t really expect me to trust you?”
“Do I need to remind you two that I’m right here?” Greg complained.
“I know. How are you feeling?”
“When the painkillers start kicking I wont feel anything.” Greg smiled. “And
it’s nice to know that this time I don’t need to stay overnight.”
“When you’ll get home you can get some rest.” Mike leaned closer and
stroked the white cast. The gesture didn’t go unnoticed.
“And I have the next two nights off, so I can look after you.” Nick offered.
“Don’t worry I got it covered.” Mikey retorted.
“Don’t you have work to do?”
“I can reschedule.”
Greg’s eyes had gone wide and he was looking at them like they were
two clowns smacking each other with donkey shaped balloons. In the
middle of the debate Warrick made his entrance.
“Hey, I got your papers, so you’re free to leave.”
“Great let’s go.” Nick grabbed Greg by his shoulder.
“My car’s got more space, it’s more comfortable.” Mikey grabbed Greg
from the other side.
“Do I have anything to say about this?” Greg interrupted.
“Sorry.” Nick said.
“Yeah, it’s your decision.” Mikey agreed.
“Good. Warrick could you drop my off at my place on your way to the lab?”
“Sure.”
“Great. And you two, Heckle and Jeckle. You can go to the parking lot and
beat each other up, but I have no intention or patience right now to play a
babysitter.”
Greg walked out with Warrick in tow. Nick and Mikey were left staring at
the door, with their mouths hanging open.
