“Alexx, I wanna talk to you.” Eric marched into the morgue. Alexx lifted her eyes
from the cadaver in front of her.
“I’m busy.”
“This won’t take long.” Eric gave Alexx`s assistant a hostile glance. “Take a hike.”
Shaky assistant looked at Alexx. “Take a five minute break.”
Alexx pulled her hands out of the body, and snapped the recorder shut. “You
better have a good reason for this, mister. I’m up to my elbows in entrails.”
“I’ll go straight to the point. What the hell is your buddy trying to do?”
“What do you mean?”
“The whole New York thing!”
“I have no idea what you mean.”
“Danny didn’t tell you! There’s one more proof that he’s up to something.”
“Calm down. What about New York?”
“Some seminar about disabilities in work life. And surprise, surprise… Danny
is going to New York at the same time. How phony does that sound?”
“Did you check the seminar?”
“Yeah…”
“Is there such seminar?”
“Yeah…”
“So why exactly are you doubting it?”
“Think about it. Danny-”
“Darren.”
“Darren met Ryan three weeks ago and they’ve being seeing each other
almost every day!”
“I know, and it has really helped Ryan.”
“It helped Ryan, but he has no idea what that creep is trying.”
Alexx let out a frustrated sigh. “I’ll try to say this as simply as I possibly
can. Do you think Ryan would cheat on you?”
“No.”
“Do you think he would go on a trip with Darren if he had any reason to think
he has ulterior motives?”
“No.”
“Then you should have no reason to put on a show like that, and if you ever
do that again, I’ll put you on my slab while you’re still alive.”
“Alexx-”
“Not a word! If you don’t get your head right pretty soon, you won’t need
Darren to screw things up between you and Ryan. You’ll do that all by
yourself.”
“Alexx-”
“Last warning! Get out and fix this, or else.”
Eric didn’t ask what `else` meant.

“Danny?”
“Darren.” The blond man turned to look at Eric. “You must be Eric.” He paid
for his coffee and headed to the corner table at the hospital cafeteria. “I was
pretty sure I would see you sooner or later.”
“Looks like you got time for me.”
“As long as takes less than ten minutes, I’m all yours.”
“I know what you’re trying to do.”
“I honestly don’t think you do.”
“You’re after Ryan. He and Alexx don’t see what you’re doing, but you
don’t fool me.”
“What exactly set that mood? The fact that Ryan isn’t sulking at home, waiting
for you to hold his hand? Or the fact that you’re no longer the center of his days?”
“This is not about me!”
“I think it is. Ryan isn’t the type to cheat, and I’m not the type who tries to
break up other peoples relationships.”
“You don’t expect me to believe that?”
“Believe what you want. But I’ll tell you one more thing. If you mess up and
Ryan leaves you, I’ll be the first one to make a move on him.”

“He really did that? You didn’t tell him, didn’t you?” Ryan groaned and grabbed
his phone more firmly.
“Of course I didn’t tell him. I don’t agree with your reasoning, but I promised
you I wouldn’t, and I’ll stick to it.” Alexx explained.
“I’ll tell him myself when I get back from New York.”
“Why don’t you just ask him to go with you?”
“I told you why. Anyway, after the trip it doesn’t matter.”
“Doesn’t it?”
“No.”
“Baby…”
“Honestly…. It feels like the last stop before the finishing line. After this…
That’s it, show’s over, time for reruns.”
“That’s pretty dramatic. Maybe you`re exaggerating just a little bit.”
“Maybe. Things are good. With the new job, and with Eric.”
“You two are doing well?”
“Yeah. We are. And I want it to stay that way.”
“You know he would want to be there.”
“Alexx, just let it go. This thing is hard enough by myself. I don’t want to
drag Eric with me, when I don’t how it goes.”
“Okay, baby. But call me when you know about it.”
“I will.”
