“What?”
“I was gonna say "sick", but that’s really not enough right now.” Speed groaned. “You offered to look after someone who’s recovering from series injury, just so you could get into his pants. That’s beyond sick.”
“He made the first move.”
“When you were seen dead people or when he was throwing fruits at your head?”
“I wasn’t seeing dead people.”
“Same thing.”
“It’s not.” Eric stretched his body against the mattress and moved his head to press the phone between his cheek and the pillow. “And I’m not trying to get into his pants.”
“You’re not?”
“Well… not yet.” Eric slid his hand down to unbutton his shirt. “I mean he’s gonna be living with his uncle, I gotta be careful.”
“And have we forgotten something pretty important?”
“Like what? And don’t talk about "us". The nurses kept talking like that, it sounds weird.” He wriggled his arms out of the shirt, but didn’t bother to pull it away from under him.
“Think.”
“The physical therapy? It’s just a formality, everything’s in working order-”
“Not that.”
“Okay, I give up.” Eric kicked off his shoes and the loud thumped echoes to the other side of the phone line.
“What was that thud?”
“My shoes. What were you talking about?”
“Let’s think about this together, shall we?” Speed explained like he was talking to a little kid. “Wolfe will be staying at his uncles place and you’ve offered to help him so that you’d get closer and make a move. That previously mentioned uncle is also very friendly with Wolfe’s ex, who hates you. What do you think he’ll say when he hears about you?”
“The uncle?” Eric’s fingers wandered down his bare chest, circling lazily around his nipples.
“The ex. You know what cops are like, they talk. They talk over coffee and doughnuts and gossip like little old ladies. Wolfe Senior will probably hear all the juice bits about you.”
“It’s not that bad-”
“Isn’t it?”
“It is…” Eric groaned. His hand paused midway down his chest.
“Yep.” Speed agreed. “Like that time when you and that new girl from the reception fell out of the supply closet with her boobs hanging out of her blouse.”
“Boobs aren’t out if the nipples are covered, that’s the rule.”
“She was trying to cover herself with her panties, so it doesn’t really count.”
“Can’t you even be glad we found them? The lights were off, so it wasn’t easy to found them from the floor! And they were part of a matching set!”
“Delko… Sometimes I don’t know if you’re a total chick or a total pig.”
“Guys don’t call guys pigs, that’s women’s job.” Eric chuckled and slid his hand down till he reached his tickly bellybutton.
“What’s so funny?”
“What do you mean?”
“You were giggling.”
“I’m tickly.” Eric slid his hand under the waist of his jeans and popped the buttons open one by one. “And the guy’s from internal investigation, no one takes those guys seriously.”
“You don’t know Wolfe’s uncle, he does. If that ex tells him about you and your reputation he’s not gonna let you anywhere near the guy.”
“You think Wolfe would listen to him?”
“Which one?”
“Younger one. The other one was pretty hot too, but I don’t go for older dudes.”
“Don’t say "dude", you sound like Cooper.”
“Anyway, if the real thing is anything like that thing that was haunting here he’s not gonna listen to anyone telling him who he can see.”
“Except that you’re not seeing him, you’re assisting him.”
“You’re a real joy killer.” Eric groaned and kicked off his jeans. The course denim pulls his boxers down to his knees on the way. “I don`t really know Wolfe yet, but I know his temper well enough. If someone tries to tell him what to do, he’ll blow a fuse. Actually…” He tickled the tender skin just below his belly. His minds was sailing further and further away from their conversation. “… it’s kinda hot.”
“No details, please.”
“I wasn’t gonna tell.”
“You were.” Speed stated. “You’re the only one I know who can move into a haunted apartment and turn it into a make out session with a ghoul. And when you throw in the ex and all that, it’s like… like…”
“Like what?”
“Like… Young and the Restless meets Supernatural. And just so we’re clear: It the whole thing blows up in your face, I don’t wanna hear about it. Good night.”
“Night” Eric’s hand was wrapped around his cock, slowly stroking himself to full hardness. He let the phone fall off his pillow. Wolfe’s nightly visit to his bedroom kept playing again and again in his mind. The contrast between the fog-like vision and the flesh and blood man was becoming clearer. He remembered the short touch in the hospital and a shiver went through him. The warm skin under his hand and the solid muscle under it had been a strong reminder of the way it was when they had kissed on the couch, Wolfe pressing him against the couch cushions and practically crawling into his lap.
Innocent touch in the hospital had brought every little memory back with a vengeance. He wanted to know if the man’s touch would feel the same now that he was living and breathing human being. Eric still wasn’t sure why, but the man in the hospital and the man who had live in the apartment felt like two different men. The one he had met in the apartment had made him furious, anxious and finally intrigued. The man in the hospital had made him…
He thought about it as he slowly stroke himself, his other hand playing with his nipples. He couldn’t come up with the right word for it.
Eric brought his free hand down to caress his balls and moved lower, running the his fingertips over his opening. A low growl escaped his mouth and he shot his load on his belly. Eric`s breathing was so hars he almost missed the sound of his cellphone ringing next to his pillow.
He didn’t bother to check the caller ID, he simply snapped it open.
“Delko.”
“Hey, it’s me.” A muted voice was easy recognise.
“Ryan?”
“Yeah, did I wake you up?”
“No, I was… I wasn’t sleeping.”
“You said I could call and-”
“It’s okay, I’m awake. What’s up?”
“This will sound really weird… What kind of a couch do you have?”
“Couch? Black leather, why?”
“I had a funny dream. I was in my old place put I didn’t know any of the furniture, there was moving boxes everywhere and there was people, but they couldn’t see me.”
“People?”
“Yeah, you were there and that guy you work with, who looks like a hobo.”
“Speedle?”
“I think so.”
“That’s why you asked about my couch? What was it like in your dream?”
“Black leather couch. And a coffee table with frosted glass.” Ryan paused and Eric could hear him taking a deep breath. “You got one of those?”
“Yeah.” Eric admitted. “What else?”
“There was this screaming bimbo and she was covered with something, I think it was whipped cream.”
“What about me? What did I do?”
“You were on the couch and there was a big bowl of popcorn.” Ryan sighed again. “This was stupid, forget I called.”
“No, no, it’s okay. Did we do anything else?”
“Like what?”
“Just… anything in general?”
“No… it was like short little flashes. Like seeing a little piece of something and it doesn’t make sense without the rest of it.”
“Maybe you’ll see the rest of it next time you go to sleep.” Eric suggested. “Fill in the missing pieces.”
“Yeah, but… I don’t know. Maybe there’s really something wrong with my head and they missed it.”
“What do you mean?”
“It didn’t feel like a dream, it was… it felt like real, more like a memory.”
“Memory?”
“I know it doesn’t make sense. Listen, they’re coming to bring me my night meds soon. Can I call you again tomorrow?”
“Sure. Anytime you want.”
“Thanks.” Ryan hesitated for a quick moment. “Good night.”
