“This is so touching…” Greg sniffed into his drink and took a sip through the curly straw. “Our little boy is growing up.”
“How many of those have you had?” Nick asked. He was still sipping his second beer, but he was reasonably sure Greg had downed quite a few drinks while Nick and Warrick had been playing pool.
“Not that many. They had these new colours… pretty, pretty colours.”
“You picked your drinks based on the colour?”
“How long have you known me? That really shouldn’t come as a surprise.”
“True.”

“Look…” Greg sent a sentimental glance across the bar. Warrick was currently busy chatting up one of the guys playing pool. “Like we’re the mother goose leading her kiddies to the water for the first time…”
“G?”
“Yeah…”
“I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again. You’re  a sentimental drunk.”
“I know, but it’s like Bambi…”
“Bambi?”
“That scene where it tries to get on its own two feet for the first time and takes its first steps…”
“Deer’s have fours legs, not two.”
“And guys have three. So what and I want one of those…”
“What?”
“Those… all blue…” Greg pointed at the drink the bartender was handing over to one of the waitresses. “Get me one of those.”

“Why me?”
“You don’t slur yet.”
“I will not-” Nick paused. He glanced over Greg’s shoulder. “He’s moving fast.”
“Yeah, but I’m not tipping her any better even if she was Speedy Gonzales. That rack does nothing for me-”
“Not the waitress, Warrick. He’s leaving.”

Greg twirled around. Warrick and the man from the pool table were walking out of the bar.

“Atta boy.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.” Nick stated dryly and eyed the men walking to the door. “You didn’t notice anything weird about that guy?”
“Like what?”
“Like… something familiar.”
“No, never seen him before.”
“I didn’t mean that. Don’t you think he looked a bit…”
“What? Too young for him?”
“No.”
“Too dolled up? Some people like their glitter, nothing wrong with that. Personally I’m really not that big on kilts, but-”
“Greg, didn’t you notice anything… alarming?”
“What?” Greg looked at him with wide eyes. “You think he`s a serial killer or something?”
“No-”
“Escaped mental patient?”
“Greg-”
“Cannibal? Rapist with homicidal tendencies? Golfer? Butcher? Vegetarian?”
“Greg, shut up!”
“How can I shut up when you just said our pet project left with an axe wielding, kilt wearing, karaoke singing, glitter sprinkling maniac!”

“Greg.” Nick gritted his teeth. “Keep going like that and we’ll get kicked out.”
“You said-”
“I asked if you noticed anything weird about him, that’s all.”
“Well… no.”
“Spiky hair, dyed blond, dark brown roots. Brown eyes, skinny frame. Doesn’t that say anything?”
“Like what?”

“Nothing.” Nick sighed and gulped down the rest of his beer. “Absolutely nothing…”

------------------------------------------

Warrick got up form the bed and tiptoed across the room to collect his clothes from the floor. The body under the covers moved and a tousled mop of blond hair appeared.

“Are you going already?”
“Yeah.” Warrick pulled his pants up. “Thanks, man.”
“You can stay if you want.” Big brown eyes were fixed on him.
“No, I gotta go.”

Warrick`s refusal was followed by an awkward silence. He continued getting dressed, but he could feel an accusing glare on his back. He crouched down to tie his shoes and the man in bed cleared his throat. Warrick looked up.

“It’s Jamie.”
“What?”
“My name. Jamie, not Greg.”

“Did I ask?” Warrick grabbed his coat and walked out.
