Right so, since 2007, I've lost like 60 pounds, which is super. Good for me. Yes. But I'm definitely stuck at a sort of not-quite-there, squishy/flabby-in-places spot and I'd rather not be if I can reasonably do something about it (an unreasonable way to do something would be, like, working out for 2 hours every day or similar ( Read more... )

idk how to do, tryna get fit, weight loss saga

I hope you find something that works! I keep meaning to start up archery again, because I really should do at least something fitness-related, and then I never do. :

I'm usually really bad at incentive-based motivation things, and if I'm going to do something, it either happens or it doesn't. I'm pretty determined to do this, so I may just be looking for an excuse to buy myself something nice at the end of four weeks.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR FITNESS STUFF. It can be really really hard to work it into your schedule if there's nothing convenient around. (I think this last sentence might be really dumb but I can't tell right now because my brain isn't working. The only thing I have really is <3 <3 <3)

First off, congrats on losing all that weight - what an accomplishment! :D Goals/targets and rewards have never really worked for me, so the best advice I can give you is challenge yourself! Every two or three weeks I like to add a little more to my workout - an extra five minutes on the treadmill, or an extra set of reps on weights, that sort of thing. If you have access to a kettlebells class, try it - brutal the first couple of times, but more effective for jiggly bits than pretty much anything I've tried! As for a reward, maybe the compromise would be to "pay" yourself for every completed workout. Then you could only get the lens after a specific number of sessions, rather than deny yourself completely if you don't do it within a certain timeframe or just caving in and buying it regardless. ;D

...Accountabilty did nothing for my NaNo either, by the way!

Hey thanks! :D

My current workout program is: 1) there's a gym in my office building and I try to go there on my lunch breaks on days when I can leave my desk for that long (usually I can) and I use the Nike Training Club phone app, which is pretty great if you actually follow their instructions. And 2) my husband and I are going to try running at the forest preserve by our house on the weekends (we're so bad at running). I probably will just buy the lens on a separate timeframe and maybe do some other little "hooray for you for working hard!" reward, like fancy bath products or something. Who knows!

That's totes awesome! But at your weight (and tallness, I hate you) you are in the "healthy" range. Definitely do some strength training and don't pay attention to the scale because muscle weighs more than fat.

THANKS! The scale is the worst thing because I know that the number itself doesn't really matter, but I keep checking and I keep beating myself up whenever the number goes up a little bit. I really really need to fix that whole mentality because I *do* know that being strong and fit and healthy is better than being skinny, even though it's a bigger number, but I can't quite shake the "lower number = better" thing in my head.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, and probably the majority of women in the country. I just had plastic surgery so for the last almost month I haven't been able to walk and I've been eating like shit.

i started lifting/squatting last summer and it's so great!!! for me just doing the workout is also enough...like my goals were "lift three times this week," even if i dont go up in weight or something. i think i go too easy on myself. setting goals that are too specific intimidate me i think.

60 lbs is ridiculous, that is crazy awesome! especially since you have always been sexy...staying that sexy within a 60-lb range basically makes you the sexiest person alive. Mike's been trying to lose about that and he always plateaus around 40ish. so congrats, i see him doing it so i know how tough that can be! people with willpower inspire me. i have to get in shape for my wedding and im like "maybe i will eat that Snickers ice cream bar, why not have another beer, i have six months." WHAT AN UNHEALTHY JERK

ps when Mike was trying to quit smoking, i sent him dirty pictures for every week he made it without smoking. i mean, it's just an idea

I think setting specific goals is a bad thing for me because I don't know what's a good / realistic / healthy goal, and if I don't hit it in the time frame I give myself, I beat myself up a lot. And it's not like I'm not trying hard or making progress, I just don't end up at that arbitrary goal I set, and feeling terrible about something like that is dumb. So I'll just try out the four workouts/week thing and see how that goes.

Also hey what's this about you sending me dirty pictures because you should do it :U <3 <3 <3 <3
