I've never been good at labels. Sure, if given criteria and objects, I can put things into categories, but in the real world I'm always too aware of how things could fit into more than one. It's interesting to see what various districts are doing with what they've been given. The news has focused largely on things like the Milwaukee Public School district, which is NOT thriving - but their union contracts from before the new law/budget are still in full force through something like 2013, so they're not a very good case study when it ( Read more... )

The Chamber of Commerce offices were vandalized with pro-high-tax and pro-union logos and statements over the weekend. Some of them were stencilled onto a statue out in front of it. Stuff like this happens, I always wonder if somewhere there's an artist who is sad at what people did to their work.

When the Catholic Church complains that we don't give it enough money to take care of its elderly clergy, then turns around and throws a ton of money at politicians and political campaigns, I fail to trust their priorities.
