When the Catholic Church complains that we don't give it enough money to take care of its elderly clergy, then turns around and throws a ton of money at politicians and political campaigns, I fail to trust their priorities.

When the area government unions do the exact same thing regarding taking care of their members, what on earth gives me more ( Read more... )

Excellent points. How many jobs have been driven overseas because of unions? all the big companies failing or nearly failing (GM, Chrysler) it comes down to union negotiated benefits that are bringing those companies down. There's a reason the foreign car companies building in the US are not union plants - if they were they would not likely be able to afford to stay here. I will say unions have done good to keep workers safe, but they lost sight of the big picture long ago in their rush to increase wages and benefits without considering long term ramifications ( ... )

Ouch. It's hard to balance the effects of the economy with what's needed to turn that economy around, and I do worry that military families will bear more brunt than they should. Hopefully you don't have to.

I think a lot of people just don't understand the level of benefits Wisconsin is giving its workers. According to a teacher salary site (the kind students are sent to during their career planning exercises) Wisconsin spends the third highest amount per salary dollar on benefits, out of all 50 states, and the average individual teacher salary is only a couple thousand below the median household income in the state ( ... )

I'm not so much worried about us. In just a couple of months, J officially becomes a senior officer. It would hurt some losing or getting a lower housing allowance, but we'd be okay. and I could go back to work and do pretty well since I have a good college education and my military experience. Even in Cali I think I would be able to find employment that would offset childcare costs, but I'd rather not do that ( ... )
