My eyes can’t see tomorrow
So today, I just close my eyes and dream.
We all say that love is one of the most beautiful things that could happen to us. But no one ever says that it is also the most painful thing that we could be experiencing in our short life. No one remembers about the suffering, about the fits of jealousy or the unsure feelings when the other one is away and you don’t know anything about him. No one does because when you fall in love, all is pink and you’re happy, you’re smiling all the time and you simply enjoy every minute spent in the company of your lover.
But times passes and those feelings change sometimes into monotony and it’s fine, it’s still fine because it gives you a sense of reassurement because you come to learn that you’ll never lose what you have gained by falling in love. But other times, they change into even more uncertainty, into ugly feelings of jealousy and despair that eats you from inside.
Still, no one talks about this part of a relationship. And maybe that’s why we never know how to react when we find ourselves into such a situation.
As the day went on, Kazuya quickly found himself at the time when he had to head over to Ryo’s office for his other job. Luckily for him, he had finished most of his important tasks and although Director Matsumoto had shown disapproval of what Kazuya had pulled off, he reverted to his former attitude and gave a curt nod to the younger one who just said his otsukare and farewell to his boss and colleagues.
A few moments later, he was on the subway and reading what he had left from what Ryo had given him. Although he felt a bit tired, he couldn’t deny that the excitement of working with Ryo made his tiredness go away and now he was dying to know another part of his favorite director. He had learned great things and he hoped that one day he could apply them too, but as hopeful as Kazuya was, he still faced reality with unwavering eyes. This was only a trial job for him and he needed not to dream but to do his best and show Ryo what he was capable of.
Half an hour later, Kazuya arrived at Ryo’s office with ten minutes earlier. He knocked shyly on the door and creaked it a little, poking his head inside.
“Good afternoon, Nishikido-san.” Kazuya said politely.
“Oh, Kamenashi-kun.” Ryo smiled, lifting his eyes from the papers he was studying and fixing his glasses better. “I was just about to call you. Can you tell me please where is the contract that I signed with Taiyou Kunamori?” he asked with puppy eyes, looking like a helpless child.
Kazuya smiled at his boss, each time amazed at the expressions Ryo could show to him. The man in front of him was a walking mystery and Kazuya couldn’t help but to feel happy to work under him. “Of course, it’s -” the younger replied and went to a drawer placed at Ryo’s left. He searched into it and quickly pulled out a file. “- right here.” He completed his sentence and handed the document to Ryo. “All of the contracts you have signed are in the third drawer and they’re in alphabetical order. Just finished compiling them yesterday.” Kazuya added with a professional tone.
“Nice.” Ryo said with a satisfied smile, though he was sure that he’ll forget again. As brilliant he was when he was directing, as helpless he was when he needed to do something that he didn’t like. And dealing with papers… let’s just say that this wasn’t his perfect way of passing time. “I won’t keep you long today, I already have a headache.” He complained and rested his head on his desk and the pile of papers, sighing tiredly and bored.
“Oh.” Kazuya made a sound and for a moment he looked disappointed before his expression changed to a worried one. “Should I bring you a pill for the headache? Though a tea of chamomile will do you better, as my mother would say.” He said quickly, already at the door and ready to go for the tea and pill. “But I’m sure we can combine both and maybe the effect will be quicker and better.” Kazuya added with a fervent nod.
“Nothing can cure the boredom that I have.” Ryo sighed dramatically as he looked up at Kazuya. There wasn’t any new project and he had to deal with the old one, to seal its deal and to make sure that the money were where they belonged. It was a boring task but as the director, he had to do it and he couldn’t trust anyone else for it. Ryo opened his mouth to say something more, but he was stopped by the sound of some heels resounding outside the door. Before he could warn his assistant, the door flew open and hit Kazuya right in the face, making him fall back as the newcomer entered the room, not even noticing the damage she had caused.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me Jin is back!!” the woman yelled and stomped her foot angrily as she looked at Ryo with an accusing expression, her arms crossed and her eyes demanding an explanation. “Why did you hide it from me?!” she then demanded, hitting the desk with her palms as she leaned over it to look more closely at Ryo.
The director just cringed in pain at his headache.
Kazuya had tears in his eyes as he looked up at the woman who just entered and suddenly demanded from Ryo information about Jin. He brushed his nose, feeling it alright and not broken as he got up from the floor, curiously looking at the angry woman. Kazuya didn’t dare to say anything, though his interest was perked up since she seemed to be looking for Jin. And Kazuya’s nose still hurt.
“If I had known where you are, maybe I could have had a way to contact you.” Ryo answered after a moment of silence during which the two of them battled with their eyes. “You disappeared for three months this time!!” he raised his voice a little as he looked straight into the girl’s eyes.
“Well, I found a great guy and he took me to the Caribbean.” She just shrugged, looking a little proud of herself. It didn’t take long as he reverted to her former self and hit the desk once more with her palms. “I want to see Jin now!!” he demanded with an imperious tone, sounding like a spoilt brat.
“Oh, God.” Ryo sighed for the nth time, resting his head on the desk yet again with a defeated expression.
And seeing his boss like this, Kazuya felt that it was somehow his duty to help him in such a tight situation, though he was clueless at who was the woman, what was her connection with the director or why was she looking for Jin. “Umm…” Kazuya cleared his throat, just enough to bring the woman’s attention upon him. “Akanishi-san is in the middle of filming right now, I’m sure he’ll be able to meet with you later if you wish to wait a bit more.” He said with a polite tone as he remembered Jin’s schedule for today.
The girl seemed startled at Kazuya’s interference and just looked baffled at him for a moment as her small eyes studied his form, tracing his body from the top to the bottom, taking in every aspect of him while the small smile on her lips started to grow wide as the seconds passed, looking very pleased when she finished her inspection. She almost flew to him and stopped in front of Kazuya, stretching her hand and smiling brightly as she introduced herself. “Hi, I’m Sayuri.” She chirped happily, her tone more flirting than polite.
“Sayuri, please don’t hit on my assistant.” Ryo pleaded from his desk, already knowing what was going through her mind.
Kazuya looked confused from his boss to the girl who was still beaming at him. Shyly, he grasped her hand gently. “Hello, I am Kamenashi Kazuya.” And he gave a small bow, habit getting ahead of him.
“Oh, you don’t need to act all formal with me.” She laughed as she waved her hand in dismissal. “And please call me Sayuri, I don’t want to hear you calling me Nishikido-san.” The girl pouted, like Kazuya had already decided this and she wanted to make him change his mind.
Kazuya goggled at her. “Nishikido?” he asked incredulously. “You are Nishikido-san’s sister?” he looked back and forward from Ryo and Sayuri. Then it dawned on him all that research he had done on Ryo. “You are that Nishikido Sayuri-san?!” he asked with big and innocent eyes. He had been a fool for not recognizing her from all those magazines and all those posters all over Japan - the model of the year - Nishikido Sayuri! Really, sometimes Kazuya was as clueless of the famous world as a new born baby. “I’m sorry for not noticing earlier and having addressed to you all of sudden.” Kazuya quickly bowed. Still… why was such a famous and beautiful woman like Sayuri looking for Jin? But if she was Ryo’s sister, maybe they were friends too, right? But the way she had demanded to see Jin… no! Kazuya scolded himself as he remembered what Ryo just said about her hitting on him. If she had any connection of that type then she wouldn’t be flirting with him or going on a three month trip with a man, right? There, Kazuya, it wasn’t anything for you to worry - as small voice in his head said and the younger shooed it angrily. He hadn’t been worrying… really.
“Look, Ryo, I’m famous!” Sayuri giggled like a child as she took Kazuya’s hand into hers and dragged him back to the desk, stopping in front of Ryo who looked back at them with a raised eyebrow. “And why didn’t you tell me about him?” she then asked with a pout, freeing Kazuya’s hand and crossing her arms again to sulk.
“Sayuri, why are you here?” her brother asked, not wanting to let her disrupt his peace more than this. Jin was better at dealing with her, he should just send her immediately at that other idiot.
“I want to see Jin!!” she childishly demanded again, stomping her feet.
Kazuya was amazed at this woman, she tired Ryo only through her presence! So, although reluctantly, he took from the desk a paper and a pen, writing the address where Jin was filming at and, after a quick search through his phone, Jin’s number too. “Here, you will find Akanishi-san at this address.” He pushed forward the paper. “But he’s probably still filming, he’ll finish at seven thirty.” Kazuya added with a quick smile. He had a feeling that probably Jin will kill her, but Ryo was in a more urgent situation than him.
Sayuri smiled brightly when Kazuya handed her the paper, already turning to leave but then stopping suddenly. She seemed to think at something and as she slowly turned over to look at the two guys, her gaze rested only on Kazuya, completely ignoring her brother. “I don’t remember you.” The girl said with a slight suspicious tone. “How do you know Jin?” she then asked, forgetting all about her frenzy about Kazuya and now completely accusing him of having some kind of secret relationship with Jin that she didn’t know about.
Kazuya gulped, but nevertheless showed a toothy smile and had a gentle expression on his face. He was a professional after all. “I work with Akanishi-san too. I was his assistant.” He replied politely with a slight nod of his head. “We’ve started working together only recently.” He added, as an answer to why she hadn’t met him before.
“You resemble his manager.” Sayuri stated with a pensive voice. “I wonder why didn’t Jin mention anything about you.” She then added, really curious about this but set to find out the truth.
“If you’re done, go and bother Jin and leave us alone to work.” Ryo interfered with a bored voice, dismissing the girl with a wave of his hand. “I’m sure he’ll be more than glad to see you too.” He continued and smiled at his sister, watching her saying goodbye and leaving without waiting for anything else. She seemed to be too happy to notice anything else anyway.
Kazuya watched for a few moments the closed door before he turned to look at Ryo, his face wearing a mask of politeness and gentleness in the same time. “You have a very lively sister.” He remarked with a soft smile. “Do you still want the pill for the headache and some tea?” Kazuya then asked, waiting for Ryo’s answer. Of course, nothing that was going inside his mind could be seen because if it had, then everyone - well, only Ryo - would have known that he had been affected by Sayuri’s words and that he had been reminded that he wasn’t that important for Jin to be mentioned to all of his friends. Just like with that idiot named Josh.
“Yes, please.” Ryo answered, feeling his head like it was about to explode and he didn’t even know why he felt like this. He only knew that his headache will only worsen now that Sayuri was back.
After all, she always managed to turn their world upside-down and them simply disappear when everyone would least expect it.
*
It was two days after Kazuya met Sayuri that he understood just how much the girl meant to Jin and what her presence meant in Jin’s life. Though he couldn’t really say that he wasn’t bothered by that, especially after he realized that the girl was pretty much possessive over Jin and unfortunately for her, Kazuya was the same. Though, how stupid does one feel when you have a tacit fight with a woman over a man? Incredibly stupid, Kazuya could say.
And that’s how the younger felt when he entered Jin’s apartment in the morning, to wake the actor as usually. But as fate was a bitch sometimes, when Kazuya pulled the curtains open, it was surely not Jin who was lying in the bed, sleeping as beautifully as now. The assistant gaped at the slim and nicely shaped body of Sayuri, thinking that maybe through a sorcery or something, Jin had changed bodies with the model, making everything easy for Kazuya as he would have no problem in sleeping with women. But this was a childish thought and the younger knew it very well, though the presence of Sayuri in Jin’s bed and with the culprit nowhere in near sight… made his stomach queasy and like a red flag fluttered in front of a bull, Kazuya could only feel sudden anger flashing through his body.
But still he couldn’t make himself move a step forward to search for Jin. He simply stared at the sleepy form of Sayuri until the woman opened her eyes lazily and stared back. Oh shit.
She blinked. And then she closed her eyes only to open them wide after two seconds, panic clearly written in them as she started to yell and scream and throw pillows and whatever she had close towards Kazuya, hitting him and still not feeling satisfied enough. “What are you doing here?!” she shrieked as she backed away from the boy, standing on the other side of the bed and pulling the sheets up to her chin to hide her body, determination to terminate him burning in her eyes if Kazuya dared to make a move.
Kazuya let his arms down as he had lifted them in order to protect himself from the sudden attack of Sayuri’s, then he opened his mouth to answer but only to utter great nonsense. “What are you doing here?” he asked and you could sense the accusation in his tone as if she wasn’t allowed to be there.
“And what right do you have to ask me that?!” she asked back with an outraged tone, pulling to her more of the sheets until she got them all around her body, her eyes still watching carefully every move of Kazuya’s.
Kazuya’s eyes darkened and he wanted to answer that he had all the rights, but the image of Ryo popped in his head and he scolded himself, saying into his mind that he shouldn’t snap at his boss’s sister. He sighed and looked at her, taking notice of the way she seemed to protect herself. “I won’t attack you.” Kazuya answered and moved away from the bed, his actions matching his words. “I’m here to take Jin to work, but apparently he’s been a bit busy last night.” He then said with a bitter tone as his eyes washed once more over the bed and the girl.
Sayuri blinked again, seeming to ponder on Kazuya’s words. She hadn’t heard anything about this but she knew about Jin’s habit to sleep even if the world would end so she kind of understood the need of having someone to make sure that he would wake up. Though why he? Sayuri asked herself, but didn’t voice out her question. “Yeah, we stayed kind of late last night.” She just said, yawning and seeming to relax a little. “Sorry for keeping him so late.” The girl added with a chuckle.
Kazuya wanted to smile, but his jaw was set against it, managing only to give a small nod. There was a clench around his heart and an ice cube in his stomach as her words seeped deeper into his brain. It was kind of difficult to digest such a thing and he felt stupid for getting jealous, for being angry when… when he knew that this was bound to happen anytime soon. Illusions were the base of his relationship with Jin. Kazuya gulped and he hoped that his mask of indifference was still there, because right now he was feeling sad and disappointed.
“It’s okay.” He managed to say in the end as he headed for the door. “Can you please tell him to come to work on time?” Kazuya then bowed humbly. How stupid! Asking for a favor to the woman that your supposed-to-be lover just - just had his way with her.
“I’ll wake him up in a minute.” Sayuri answered with a smile, not noticing or not wanting to notice Kazuya’s feelings. She waved to Kazuya and then fell back on the bed, trying to control her heartbeat. It was one thing to be with Jin like this and it was a totally different thing to let an unknown man see her like this!!
Kazuya said his thanks though and exited the bedroom, closing the door behind him, his heart beating furiously. He stared at the floor for a few minutes before he decided that it was better if he left this place quicker. He didn’t want to think anymore of her in Jin’s bed, of the fact that this happened right after he and Jin had planned on something… no, he really didn’t want to think of anything right now but work!
And maybe because he had been too immersed in his thoughts of not thinking to such things, Kazuya didn’t heard another door opening and neither did he hear Jin calling him until a hand stopped him from exiting the apartment.
“What?!” Kazuya barked as he turned to face a sleepy looking Jin.
“Wow, what’s with the sudden greeting?” the actor backed away a little, raising his hands as if in defense to show Kazuya that he had nothing to threaten him with - like a gun or something like that.
“Be thankful that I don’t hit you.” Kazuya snarled, looking viciously at him. “Go to your princess, I’ve woken and scared her by mistake.” He then added with a cold voice. “Just remember to be on time for work.” And he turned his back to Jin, wanting to get out of there as quickly as possible. Really… first Josh, now Sayuri?! God, who had he been fooling when he accepted Jin? What a moron he was.
Jin looked confused at Kazuya, grabbing his arm once again and stopping him from leaving. “Kazuya, why are you mad?” he asked, really not understanding what was the problem or what did he do now.
Kazuya narrowed his eyes dangerously. “Are you really taking me for a fool?” he said through gritted teeth, before yanking his arm out of Jin’s grip. “I am not mad, I am feeling enraged and stupid because I said all those things just so you can go and have fun with your friend’s sister!” He continued furiously and pointed his finger towards Jin’s bedroom. “Just leave me alone, okay? Go and -” he made a pause as the words failed him. “- do whatever you want.” Kazuya waved his hand tiredly, wearing a total defeated expression on his face.
Jin blinked, wondering for a moment if Kazuya was talking seriously or if he was just making a joke. And then he laughed. He laughed hard, bending his body and holding his stomach with his hands as he felt like he couldn’t stop now that he had started. “You thought…” he tried to say through a fit of laughter. “Me and Sayuri…” he tried once more, but didn’t manage to finish the sentence this time either. “You’re jealous of her.” Jin finally said something coherent as he looked back at Kazuya, his eyes teary and his lips still curled up into a wide grin.
Seeing Jin like that only added fuel to the fire and Kazuya couldn’t hold back anymore so he snapped. He punched Jin in the chest for daring to laugh, he punched him for making fun of him! “Like I would think otherwise after seeing you naked and her in your bed!” The younger growled and headed for the third time towards the exit.
“Kazuya, baby,” Jin stopped the boy yet again, this time pinning him to the door with his body and stopping him from going anywhere, “if I had had sex with her, why would I have slept into another room?” he asked with a slightly teasing tone, the chuckle still obvious in his voice.
Kazuya glared at Jin and tried to free himself from the older. “Maybe she has bad sleeping position. Maybe she kicked you out of the bed. Do you think I care now?” he snarled at Jin, annoyed that the actor dared to make jokes with him when he was obviously not in the mood. “Let me go, I don’t have time to lose with you.” Kazuya added with a spiteful voice.
“Oh, don’t be like that.” Jin continued to tease, clearly enjoying the younger’s reactions. “Sayuri actually has very bad sleeping habits, but I know that because we used to sleep together when we were kids.” He added with a playful tone. “But I’d never really sleep with my sister, sweetie, especially when I already have you.” Jin said, tauntingly moving his lips over Kazuya’s, but not kissing them and just waiting for the younger to calm down and digest the information first.
“Yeah, right, like someone could keep his hands away from someone as attractive as her.” Kazuya breathed and moved his head away, not wanting Jin’s lips so close to his. “And don’t you dare trying to say that I was wrong because it’s clearly what kind of relationship you two have.” He hissed, jealousy and anger reigning over his reason.
“Okay, now that’s plainly gross.” Jin stated with a disgusted voice as he made an expression that mirrored his thoughts. “I know her since she was born, she’s more than my sister.” He explained with a calmness that even he didn’t know he had. “She could be the only person living on Earth, I would still not sleep with her.” He assured his lover.
“Aha.” Kazuya said with an unbelieving tone. “Are you finished?” he then asked, turning to look at Jin with harsh eyes. Be it whatever they were, Jin should have at least told him that she was to stay overnight and that it was better not to come and wake him as usually.
“Why are you still mad?” Jin whined with a pitiful voice as he let go of Kazuya and backed away one step, looking at the younger with hurt eyes because he wasn’t trusted.
“Don’t you do that!” Kazuya frowned displeased. “Don’t you act like you’re innocent in all this. If you have a guest overnight, at least tell me! So that I won’t enter on her and be treated like I have no rights to be here!” He said with a loud voice, his hands balled in fists.
“But I didn’t know she was going to stay over the night!” Jin countered, raising his voice a little but still being careful to not anger Kazuya even more. He really didn’t want to fight with him right now and especially not because of such a stupid reason like this!! “Sayuri just came to watch a movie with me, she fell asleep so I left her to sleep in my room and I went to the guest’s one!!” he tried once again to explain, finding the situation really ridiculous.
“Still! That means you never thought about me at all.” Kazuya retorted, this time calmly and kind of hurt. “You never do, don’t you?” he sighed and passed a hand through his hair. “It doesn’t matter, I’ll go now.”
“So what was I supposed to do?!” Jin finally got mad, seeing that he had no way of winning this. “To call you in the middle of the night and tell you to check another door when you come in the morning to wake me up?!” he asked with an incredulous tone.
“Yes! You should have!!” Kazuya shouted, anger and hurt on his face. “What would you think if you showed up at my place and instead of me, a beautiful woman would answer?!” he asked, flailing his arms. “And if you honestly won’t get mad over such a thing, then I’m the stupid one and I’ll apologize for being obnoxious!”
“No, I would have been mad.” Jin admitted with a small voice, not looking at Kazuya. He was finally beginning to understand Kazuya’s point of view, but this didn’t mean that there was something between him and Sayuri!! They were just friends, brothers even, and for Jin it was normal to hang out with girls like that and to let them do whatever they wanted in his house. “I’m sorry.” The actor added, regret in his voice as he lowered his head in front of Kazuya. “But believe me when I say that I love Sayuri very much, but I could never see her more than a sister.” Jin continued, again staring into the boy’s eyes and wanting to show him how sorry he was for this misunderstanding.
Kazuya took a deep breath and let it out with a long sigh. “Okay, I believe you.” He said with a stern look. “But I’ll get it back at you, remember that.” He then warned Jin, his eyes serious and dangerous in the same time. Oh, that was for sure. He’ll make Jin pay for this shame Kazuya had to feel. He just needed to figure how to do it.
“Somehow, this sounds kinky.” The words slipped out of Jin’s lips before he could stop himself.
Kazuya narrowed his eyes. “You wish.” He scoffed, crossing his arms.
"True." Jin approved with a nod of his head, seeming to be already imagining... things.
And Kazuya whacked him over the head, looking flustered and kind of furious in the same time. “You should repent, not think of stupidities!” he scolded the older and then sighed. “Go and get ready for work, I’ll go first this time.” He then said, looking stern.
“Why?” Jin hurried to ask. “Come on, I’ll be ready in a minute and we can go together.” He added with a smile as he grabbed Kazuya’s hand to pull him back into the apartment and away from the door.
“Jin, no, I’ll go this time. You have a guest and you need to attend to her until you come to work.” Kazuya refused to be dragged into the apartment again. “Besides, you still have time, so be a good host.”
“Sayuri’s not a guest, she’s family.” Jin replied, a pout forming on his lips. “Besides, I think you’ll see more of her while she’s here.” He added with a slight uncertain voice as he looked at Kazuya to see his reaction.
Kazuya’s expression darkened a little, but it disappeared quickly. “I don’t mind her, but if she’s here I won’t come in the mornings anymore. I’ll give you a call instead.” The younger replied with a slight shrug. “And! Before you start whining, I don’t want her to be bothered by my presence, that’s why I won’t come, okay?” He quickly added, not letting Jin react.
“Oh, don’t worry, I don’t mind your presence.” Sayuri appeared out of nowhere, smiling like a little devil and smirking like she was already plotting something evil, startling Jin and making him stick out his tongue at her. “In fact, I’d really like to know better the one that Jin has fallen in love with.” She added with an innocent tone, but her wish of possessing Jin betraying her fake intentions as he looked at Kazuya with eyes that challenged him.
Kazuya looked startled at her and didn’t hide the nervousness he felt around her. “No one has fallen in love with no one here.” He replied smoothly, his voice steady and unwavering unlike his expression. “And needn’t to worry, Akanishi-san still belongs to you.” Kazuya suddenly said as a reply to her challenge. He’ll put down all the cards if necessary, but he won’t have trouble with Sayuri because of Jin - though actually he would have liked to rub it into her face when Jin will come to him after all. And a small voice at the back of his mind whispered - will he?
“Well, now that’s a nice way to throw me aside. Thanks.” Jin snorted annoyed, turning his back on Kazuya and heading to his room, slamming the door loudly. He couldn’t believe this!! After all he had tried to convince Kazuya that Sayuri was just a friend, he did what? Oh, yeah, because Jin had just imagined that he had fallen in love with Kazuya and the fact that the assistant had accepted to be his lover must have been a dream too, right? And of course Jin belonged to Sayuri!! He would belong to anyone if Kazuya had any right to decide!
Oh, fuck him, Jin decided, throwing himself in bed, covering his body with the blanket and putting the pillow over his head to stop every noise from disturbing him. For now, he just wanted to sulk.
“I didn’t think it would be this easy.” Sayuri laughed at Kazuya, enjoying the mess she had caused and with less effort than she would have thought. After all, she had been there to witness pretty much what had happened between them and after the scene Kazuya had caused, she would have expected more resistance than this. “You know the way out.” she pointed with her head to the door. “I have to go to my Jin.” The girl added with a happy tone, emphasizing the last two words to show her possessiveness that Kazuya had stated alone.
And Kazuya was torn between duty and Jin. He looked at the bedroom’s door where Jin had gone then he turned to look at Sayuri who was gleefully smiling over such a situation. Then he decided and he bowed to her. “Excuse me.” He said and then rushed past her and towards Jin’s bedroom, opening the door and closing it quickly, turning the lock on. Oh boy, he was glad that Jin had a lock to his own bedroom. He leaned a little against the door as he looked at the covered form that was Jin. His heart was beating fast because of what he had done - how could he really?
But it wasn’t time for such thoughts, he’ll deal with her later and he hoped that nothing of this will reflect upon his work with Ryo. Kazuya got closer to the bed and sat on it, putting his hand on the older one’s back, moving it slowly up and down.
PART TWO
