Things to help educate derailers

Mar 06, 2009 21:02

popelizbet requested a resource post for people who want to fight derailing by trying to convince the derailers to stop it, already. While personally I wouldn't like this to be the focus of the community, I can see that it could be useful. Unfortunately I'm running out of time and energy for the evening, but I can offer my bookmarks on race and rhetoric. Read more... )

I WAS TRYING TO THINK OF THE TITLE OF THAT POST when I thought that an ongoing post of anti-derailing resources would be a good idea, actually. Thank you.

Awesome! And you're welcome. Oh, and there's Baby-stepping away from racism, too.

Maybe this by yeloson?

If derailers are going to be pointed to the post, I would suggest keeping it very short. Maybe there should be two posts, one for derailers and one for anti-derailment 101.

Anti-derailment 101 links were what I was hoping to aggregate, but not with the intention of inviting derailers here, more just to share resources. There are a lot of different permutations of derailing behavior that various people have discussed in various forums. My thoughts on it weren't too clear, but I didn't intend to imply it should be a major focus...but I at least put these kind of infodumps in my memories for Later Use, and if they're in the community's memories as well, it's also a place to point people if someone asks the question along the line.

edited to add that I will return with links when I'm on the computer that has my bookmarks. :d

Thanks! Sorry for being a bit dim... wasn't quite sure what the aim was.

No, no. Kate_nepveu also expressed that she didn't think this should be a major focus, and I wanted to make clear that I didn't either, but thought an aggregation post could be useful.

Hello!

I just discovered this whole Racefail09 thing via rydra_wong's gigantic link collection and have been reading it all with a mixture of fascination and horror...

I came over here to ask, what can I do to help, in practical terms? Offline, I already make sure to say "that's not cool" when someone says something casually racist, but what with this and the recent racist-graffiti imbroglio at my college, I feel like I should be doing more than that.

(Background: liberal white middleclass 18-yr-old girl who grew up around people of just about every race/ethnicity/religion imaginable & is now at a really really white college which is now having racism issues of its own)

The Unapologetic Mexican, Wite-Magik Attax: A predictable series of non-arguments that attempt to denigrate, negate, or invalidate ideas, feelings, or experience as related by a brown person.
