Day 04 | Your favorite book
I usually have a hard time answering this question. I read a LOT, and there are so many books that I love that it's really hard for me to pick a favorite. Like the past three posts I wrote (songs, movies, and TV shows), my favorite usually rotates with my mood.
HOWEVER!
A few years ago, I discovered that I DO have a favorite. I picked up a copy of Water for Elephants one day while wandering through Barnes and Noble and I immediately loved it.
When I'm buying a book, I'll usually read the first few pages to see if it's a story that I'll get into. I didn't even have to finish reading page one of this book before I marched up to the counter to buy it. When I got it home, I read it, start to finish, in one day.
How could I NOT like this book? It's got everything that I love: animals, a circus, freaks, parades, mental instability, a love story, and depression-era America.
The author said that she took a lot of circus "facts" (like traveling with the pickled hippo) and weaved them into the story that she created.
They're in the process of making a movie out of this book, staring Mr. Hairy Vampire (Rob Pattinson) and Reese Witherspoon. I'm not sure if I'm excited about this or not...every time a movie has been made out of a book that I like, they always fuck it up. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
I have a bunch of other favorites, both fiction and non-fiction, but I'll save those for Day 13.
