3:45 ~ 4:30 Arriving and Dinner c_chesilwick October 31 2006, 04:52:15 UTC
The guests were just arriving, and Calliope was standing at the door with a beaming smile, handing out programs to each person as they walked in the door. The program showed moving pictures of happy children running around, with a picture of each 'auctionee' in the inside with a little biography. There was also, on the back, information regarding the do's and don'ts of the auction, and an example of what the dating contract would be for anyone who managed to buy a date.

Ginny Weasley entered the room, taken back and awed by the simple, festive beauty of the place. Everything was orange and the whole room glowed. She was pleased to see that even if she wasn't properly dressed, she at least matched the decor. (Earlier there was much debate, because she couldn't remember anything to indicate formal or informal. In the end, a simple black dress that fell just below her knees. It would work for either casual or a posh event. Costumes, however, not so much.)

Quietly, Ginny searched for a seating chart. Was she to sit at a table, mingling with the guests, for dinner? Or was there a special table for those on the auction block?

Perhaps waiting for a familiar face would be best. Then she would figure out what was going on.

Fred and George entered the room minutes behind Ginny. They seemed to be pulling off the combination of having fun and playing over-ptotective brothers rather well... Or at least they thought so. It wasn't like they were standing over Ginny, looking intimidating. They rarely did intimidating well, anyway.

Tonight, they were dressed identically, in tailored charcol grey suits. However, George was wearing a royal blue tie and Fred was wearing a Gryffindor Red tie, sneakers and a large, purple lapel flower that was ready to squirt water at unsuspecting victims.

"Trying to figure out where to sit?" George asked, peering over Ginny's shoulder.

"Maybe they'll have us all on stage or something," Fred suggested impishly. If anyone was excited by this auction, it was Fred. Hell, Tori had been amused by the prospect that she'd have to "buy" Fred for a night. "You know... On display for our prospective buyers."

Katie Bell had been practically threatened with execution to get her there. She loved her manager, but the woman was a pushy cow sometimes. Julia DeMarc was a very pushy little spanish woman who was a wonderful manager. After seeing to the things with Witch Weekly, Julia had literally gone to Hogwarts and made sure that she was dressed to the nines. It was good for her public image.

Julia had shoved her into a green dress that was pretty and flattering, yet demure. She handed her coat off to a doorman as she entered The Crystal Ballroom. She sighed softly, "Off like a lamb to slaughter." she muttered to herself, spotting the redheads of the Weasleys. Thank god, someone she knew.

She moved over towards them, the room did look charming, perhaps if Calliope had been on the up and up, she would have enjoyed herself, but now she felt like a slab of meat to be slathered over. "Evening, Fred, George, Ginny." she said, nodding to each in turn.

Neville Longbottom ~ 4:35pm c_chesilwick October 31 2006, 04:56:28 UTC
Calliope ascended the platforms and stood behind the lecture, wearing her brightest ever smile. She tapped her throat with her wand, and began to speak, her voice now magically magnified.

"Thank you, everyone, for coming here. I would like to first thank all of our fantastic Top Ten Bachelors and Bachelorettes who have been so amazingly generous in offering themselves for this noble cause. Let us give them a round of applause, please!" She said, gesturing with her hands at the line of auctionees sitting in front of her. "And now, let us begin.

For our first date up for bid, we have the handsome Neville Longbottom. Though he spends most of his time pruning the Greenhouses of St. Mungo's, this young man is also the proud recipient of the Order of Merlin, first class.

"If you would like to be the one to take Neville Longbottom out for a delicious dinner, place your bids. We'll start at 30 galleons."

Hannah had never really been one to attend these functions. Yet, in recent months she's found herself in such places more frequently. She'd decided to stop in for just a short while as she had very limited funds. Though she hadn't thought much of betting on anyone in particular. So, when she saw Longbottom pulled up to the podium she watched the crowd waiting to see if any of the ladies there were going to place a vote.

After a few moments no one had spoken up. Someone even yelled, "Get to the Quidditch player." Hannah shook her head at the woman's rudeness. Slowly, she raised the plaquard she'd been given. "Thirty."

It seemed that as soon as Hannah showed an interest the crowd came alive. Bids starting flying left and right at such a furious pace that Hannah couldn't even get another word in. In a matter of meer seconds Neville's price had jumped so high that Hannah knew she was out of her league. This realization caused her to quietly pick up her things, nod politely to those she'd been seated with, and make her way out into the briskly approaching evening.

"Our first lady to ascend the auction block is this fiery beauty, Ginny Weasley! It has been noted that she is currently seeing the gorgeous Oliver Wood -- you can raise your paddle for him later, ladies! -- but as there is no ring on her left hand, now is your time, fellows! We'll start the bidding again at 30 galleons."

"With this impish grin, how could you say no? Fred is tall, dashing, and is rumored to be an excellent gentleman. Though he is rumored to have a girlfriend, why don't you ladies jump on this chance to charm the charmer? And the bidding begins, yet again, at 30 galleons!"

Tori watched with a smirk, as Fred took the stage with all the enthusiasm of someone who was completely enjoying himself. It would almost serve him right, if some old hag won the bidding for him. She said as much to Henri and Sasha, who were sharing a table with her. They'd both agreed.

But still, it was for a good cause... "30 Galleons," she spoke up.

Fred Weasley's fame was quite spread throughout the wizarding world. There would be no shortage of bidders for this fine young man - though perhaps there might be a shortage of Galleons for some, as they spent far too much money on the young man's products - and Daydream potion - to allow for 'rich' bidding.

Still, what was Thirty Galleons when it came to a hunk like this?

Placards began to wave wildly in the air through out the room, leaving the Auctioneer almost breathless as he tried to keep up with the bids.

"Thirty five... do I have there it is forty, forty forty forty how about forty-five have forty-five now fifty have fifty now fifty-five? Fifty-one fifty-one now have fifty-two, sixty in the back.

"Sixty, sixty, sixty..."

Clearly miss Chesilwick had spared no expense to find a good, professional 'caller'.

"Who will go to sixty sixty sixty...."

Tori shouldn't have been surprised at the small bidding war going on for Fred... After all, he was hot. From up on the block, Tori could see that Fred was enjoying all the attention. "Sixty-Five!" she called out.

"Seventy!"

"Seventy-Five," some bloke in the back called out.

Tori fought not to laugh at that one. It would serve Fred right to be won by that one... Still... "Eighty!" she raised her placard.

Garrett Drake was what one might call the classic 'nerd'. Over six feet tall, he tended to slouch a great deal in an attempt not to draw notice to himself. It didnt' help. He was exceedingly thin, and he gangled. He was by no means 'homely', nor deficient in personal hygiene, but he was excessively shy all through his childhood and though he had overcome the worst of that shyness, he was still somewhat timid ( ... )

Padma was baffled as she watched the flashing of numbers in the crowd. She'd seen auctions before, but always from the crowd, never from the stage. The sheer speed in which things were happening was baffling. There seemed to be a few numbers that were going up repetitively with a few odd ones popping up now and then. She listened to the auctioneer as he rattled off numbers.

"Seventy-five, I got seventy-five. Who will make it eighty? Eighty here. Come on, folks. Eighty's a deal. I've got eighty. Will anyone give me eighty-five? Eighty-five over here. Ninety, anyone?"

Ninety? Ninety galleons?! Who would want... Who would have that much money to spend on something like this? An irrational hope sparked in her heart before she beat it back down. He was in France. He wouldn't know anything about this. Don't be a moron, Padma.

It was impossible to conceive of an angel more beautiful than the radiant young woman standing so regally on the stage. The vibrant orange and black of her sari seemed to collect the surrounding light until she seemed to almost literally glow with a sort of inner luminescence.

Or maybe that was just the stars in his eyes.

The other bidders were falling off, slowly but surely. Garrett didn't care. He would have bid all night long. Rarely did he spend money on anything which was not a necessity, simply because he was never away from his desk enough to want anything.

He wanted, now. With a determination which might have been better suited to a former Gryffindor than the former Ravenclaw he was, he raised his paddle at any time when he was not the highest bidder. He even rose from his seat in the back to make his way slowly closer to the stage, feeling almost triumphant when yet another bidder shook his head in disappointment and stopped raising his card ( ... )
