Something I said in a comment thread, wrt the endless "Examine your desires" refrains:

I'm not saying "go wildly against your principles if it brings you momentary pleasure." I am saying "hey, if you're kinky and kink is against your principles because you analyze consensual hierarchy and nonconsensual hierarchy similarly... why not ( Read more... )

Right. The whole point of having principles is to lead a *fuller* life.

I can only agree. What I find most disheartening about the whole debate is the insistence that there is a pure and unproblematic perception and experience of desire and that if all others would simply shut up and listen then they would achieve salvation. Puritanism seems to be always with us, constantly adapting itself and using the rhetoric of whatever ideologies are around at any one time.
