Sheila Jeffreys

I've wanted to find this utterly asinine essay for quite a while now. I'd read it before, but couldn't find it again on the Web.

Boring for many of you, I'm sure, but absolutely amusing to me because it's the pinnacle (actually nadir is probably a better word) of "lesbianism is political"-style thinking. It's so thick with its own ideology that it ( Read more... )

also wishing to know details.

I can't remember who was telling a story of her saying something outlandishly inappropriate and SamBerglike to a student (!), something about her lipstick making her mouth a fuckhole, or...not that, but something along those lines, involving lipstick and a student and wildly inappropriate and degrading sexual talk.

also that she physically attacked someone.

and has a fruitbat named "Ernie." no, I made that bit up. probably. perhaps. it was a rumor. -looks shifty-eyed-

Yeah, I remember that too. I don't have a link though. I think it was somewhere in feminist during one of the interminables.

No, but this was. sadly however it was mostly verbatim and it worked quite well as parody:

What do you sympathize with the Twisty types about? You do realize that they'd think you're wrong, creepy, deluded, or lying about everything if they knew you're a masochist, right?

I definitely don't agree with her on every word, but rape and street harassment and work harassment and honor killings and that sort of thing happen way too often to all be isolated incidents.

Oh yeah, I agree. But I don't get why agreeing with that means seeing the point of "Twisty types." I think most feminists/feminist expatriates agree with that.

And the thing is, I'm not exactly sure that the way the Twisty types put emphasis on the hate is productive. I keep thinking of one of dikaiosunh's comments here a while back, where I said that hate fuels war and he said "well, no, actually, disputes over resources fuel wars; hatred fires up the grunts." And I keep thinking that it's gotta be more than this amorphous nebulous "MEEEEEEEENNNN HAAAAAAAATTTTTEEE!" as if they all have personality disorders. I keep thinking maybe resources is it. Fear that the power they continue to have, but that feminisms have steadily attacked, is all that keeps them afloat and if they don't terrorize, harass, or violate the "cunts" they'll lose everything ( ... )
