[EDIT: See comment thread. At the time I read the post, I did not realize it was a dig at a specific person. I do not agree with or support that dig. I was basing my opinions on the idea that the post was a response to certain flavors of white feminism that suggest that we're all tainted/infected until The Revolution.

Instead, it appears to have ( Read more... )

If you read the comments you might have noticed something interesting. That post resonated with most white women with a few who disagreed, and most WOC disagreed with a few saying it resonated with them. Our culture says that white women are weak and in need of protection, but says that WOC are ultra-strong and especially black women. So a white woman will feel empowered by words that tell them they have strength, while a WOC will think, "Here we go again. I can never show any vulnerability ( ... )

Renee has, in the past, tackled the issue I'm talking about:

(here's an example of the sort of thing it's answering: http://feh-muh-nist.blogspot.com/2006/08/political-lesbian.html )

So not knowing she was apparently slagging BA (which again I don't approve of), I liked the post.

BA said in twitter, I think this is about me and then linked to that post. And Renee got defensive, but did admit it was about her in part. So there is that, in part, meaning that it's about more than just BA ( ... )

Oh and just so you know, I do think Renee writes some really great stuff, and I agree with her on many more things than I disagree. It's just that this feud is so wrong and it colors some of her posts because she can't hold back her resentment and envy of BA. No matter how much I hate the, "Yer jus jelus" line of attack, there are things she has said to and about BA that you can't come to any other conclusion. She doesn't understand the love and respect that BA gets in the blogosphere, and she does resent and envy it ( ... )

*nods* Yeah, I've liked a lot of her posts that I've read, but this feud seems silly.

I can think of a VERY few bloggers that I do think whine to get attention; BA's not among them. And if someone is (in your opinion) whining and it bugs you, it would seem to me the better thing to do would be to just stop reading that person, or to vent quietly to your friends.

As far as the whole political "who to ally with" question, I have noticed some people deciding others are "selling out" for not disagreeing with something, and I don't like that. But if that's what started this, "this is why people think I shouldn't support so-and-so, and this is why I think that's wrong" is a much better way to deal with that than "you're a whiner."
