Summary: It's so easy to fall into orbit. Drabble.
She isn’t, really, that foolish.
Or no - she is only that foolish when she stands in a hotel room with Light Yagami and he tells her how it will be, and when he says it she believes every word he says. Light could hold the world in the palm of his hand, and he does, he burns with it.
When she tells herself, though, without him blazing before her, it becomes hollow, impossible. She looks into mirrors and knows she is only a means to an end. And she said it herself, didn’t she? Light Yagami burns, and he will burn her too, consume her. She has seen the sun in his eyes.
She goes back to defy him, tell him no, that she doesn’t want to burn, that she is done with this and will not be used - and as soon as she faces him, she believes again.
And he smiles at her, and there is a truth she can feel. She is in orbit around the Sun. It is easy to forget, all over again, that the sun is the first and the last and the only.
She dies burning, consumed by his fire.
No one, she remembers at the last, touches the sun; and those who look too long are also blinded.
