Summary: Nakamaru and Koki have been sent on a mission to find alternative fuels through space, though they didn't expect to find him.

this is a good thing, of course. h-how did you know of my unending love for sf? (don't you say anything about it probably being right there in my sign-up)

one of my favorite things is how you built the world-- it's effortless. space travel and exploratory missions and even the hints of humanity's past. (i can't help but wonder, is it the distant past for them? it must be, considering how waste the Waste is, all post-apocalyptic crunchy buildings and sand. but maybe not? seriously i love that there's little things to wonder about given the Waste and the Big Red and wherever humanity must be scattered about.)

uhm, but enough about that.

i really love koki in all of his messy glory. no shoes, welding in the cockpit, and generally being kind of ridiculously lax in the face of nakamaru's fastidiousness. yes, it's love. i mean, "He wouldn't care if I don't wear shoes," Koki snorts. "He wouldn't care if I were walking around naked, to be honest.", and "Let's just hope the people who need ( ... )

I really loved how you described their what-seemed-to-be-hopeless journey, and their despair, and interspersed these scenes with comedy gold in the form of Koki's jibes, Nakamaru's exasperation at utterly everything, Taguchi being Taguchi ("You haven't had sex in eighty five days?" guy certainly has priorities), and Ueda being the BAMF boss who doesn't care whether or not you wear shoes or whatnot, as long as you get the job done.

I adored the mention of Nakamaru and Ueda's past together, going to cadet college and trying to make it back before lockdown each night. <3 and now Ueda's still giving Nakamaru little 'gifts' and generally looking out for him.

The supernova scaring them into silence was another part really stood out for me, as well as Nakamaru and Koki trying to understand each other as crewmates in general, Taguchi's arrival making their currently-uneventful journey that much more interesting, and how he just fits right in.

Taguchi is there with his kind eyes and handsome face, and ( ... )

This was so great!
I loved the character dynamics so much. The whole set-up of Nakamaru as the too serious captain and laid back Koki as his shipmate on a fruitless journey is perfect.
The Tagumaru development was so cute - how Junno gets under Nakamaru's skin and Nakamaru gets so adorably snappish <333
