eponine119 requested unusual pairings - I tried to come up with some Jack/Shannon but instead I… uh… ended up here: five one hundred word drabbles with Jin and Sawyer.
Summary: How're you gonna tell him about Sun?
The waves splash around Jin's stumbling feet: it takes Sawyer too long to work out what he's looking at. By the time he and Bernard are on their feet, running - fast, fast, faster - Jin's fallen. Bigger splash. Rising waves.
Salt water stings but Jin's breathing when they drag him out of the ocean. Must be some kinda miracle.
"The freighter exploded," Bernard splutters. "This can't be possible."
Sawyer shrugs: no answer. Jin's skin is like ice. He's shivering violently.
(How're you gonna tell him about Sun?)
Juliet arrives to help and nothing matters now: Jin's alive. That's something to celebrate.

He doesn't talk: he wasn't all that chatty in the first place, but now Jin doesn't even try. Sawyer compensates, filling the silence with nonsense Jin probably doesn't understand, keeping an eye on him.
So he slings an arm around Jin's shoulders when he finds him shivering: the sun's burning so it can't be from the cold. Sharing body heat isn't gonna help. Jin's nose is like an ice cube against his neck - but they're not hugging. Sawyer doesn't hug.
"Sorry," he grumbles: doesn't know what it's for.
But Jin nods - shuffling against his shoulder - and it's okay. Sins forgiven.
*
The years slip past (sand through split fingers) and Jin talks a little more; Sawyer watches him a little less (though eyes still linger, and not-hugs are always available) but he always grins when Jin speaks.
He frowns as he watches Jin busily paddling around in the waves. Seeing him in the water brings back bad memories - "Chewie," he calls, "you nearly done?"
Jin holds up his hand and offers a rare smile so Sawyer has to nod. "Soon," Jin says, "Han."
That's enough to make his grumpy mood disappear: he never would've pegged Jin for a Star Wars fan.
*
It isn't surprising when they kiss - but Sawyer would later say he'd always thought he'd be the one that started it.
It's all Jin. Sawyer is talking while they're cooking. He's rambling when he hears Jin sighing: an annoyed puff of air like an irritated horse. "What's got you in a knot, Spock?" he asks: he sticks to sci-fi with Jin.
"Please," Jin says, "be quiet."
Ain't much protesting when Jin makes him shut up - lips, hands and tongue. Just gotta grin, give in, and get the hell on with it.
(The last five years have been building to this.)
*
Lying in bed, eyes on Jin (he's an avenging angel at rest when he sleeps) Sawyer can hear the waves and the birds outside. The sun's already broken in the sky but he's not rushing to wake Jin up: it's been a painful few months.
One arm slung over his waist, Sawyer tenses when a different noise joins the natural tranquillity of the island: this sound's manmade. Whirring, whirling, world-ending. His grip on Jin tightens. That sound… Spinning helicopter blades.
Sawyer reaches for his clothes in a daze: there's a new world to meet. The future's changing (ending) around them.
