Summary: Daniel and Miles are the only things keeping her sane.

Her boys balance each other in a way that shouldn't feel right, shouldn't work.

Tangled in bed together, they are awash with bare skin and hot bodies. Daniel is sleeping already, a dead weight between them, and Juliet curls against his back, her arm slung over his waist. Miles doesn't cuddle, too prickly for that. She's sure that would end with elbows in ribs and painful bruises, but she watches him over Daniel's shoulder with hooded lids. "How are you?" she asks.

"Fine," Miles answers - too quickly. Always too quick. "Why wouldn't I be fine?"

"Today's been intense." She doesn't mean the sex; all in all, that was the most normal thing about her evening. The life that has come before it, the gun in her hand and the enemies they have faced, that is the difficult part. The metal feels normal and natural under her hands by now - but she has lived this life for years. Daniel has the soft hands of a scientist, and Miles has always mistrusted but never known why. He isn't one of Them. She is; she has been the monster that creeps through the jungle. She has been the bogeyman.

In her arms, Daniel stirs, and it is difficult to imagine why anyone was ever scared of her; she doesn't feel dangerous. She has shot men today, but tonight she feels gentle. Her mouth nuzzles against the nape of Daniel's neck and she breathes against his skin as she waits for him to fall further into sleep.

Miles shuffles and grumbles in bed. "Every day's intense," he complains.

That's true.

For years of her life, that has always been true. There is no such thing as relaxation on this paradise island.

"Would you leave?" she asks. "If you could?"

There is a submarine. If they could get it, if they could steal it, they might stand a chance of escape.

Miles's face is difficult to read, tense and ever-changing. In her arms, Daniel is a warm, dead weight, lost to the world: irrelevant to this discussion. Juliet doesn't stop to think about what he might want; Daniel goes with them, whatever they decide. He isn't happy anywhere, so it doesn't matter where they take him.

"We need to stay here," he says, with a sigh that sounds frustrated.

Her mouth twitches; she wants to smile, but she doesn't even smirk. To do so would make her feel inhuman. "Not forever," she says.

They don't say how long it will be. She has wanted to put this rock behind her for years now - but with the pair of them here, with her, she thinks they can put it off for a little while longer.

She won't go mad, yet.
