Casey glanced at her ringing cell phone and paused the movie she was watching on her TV. “Shraeger.”
“Hey,” Jason’s voice said. “I miss you.”
She didn’t speak for a moment. “You’re gone?”
“Have been for a week.”
“Oh, I didn’t notice,” she told him, moving to lay down on the couch.
“Nice. I miss you,” he said again.
She smiled. “I miss you too.”
“I still don’t get why you didn’t come.”
“I hate flying.”
“Well, they do have these things called cars.”
“Drive to California? We could both buy new cars with the money spent on gas to get there and back.” She shook her head slightly. “Anyway, what are you wearing?”
He laughed as there was a knock on the door. He groaned. “Oh, they have great timing. Hang on.” He put the phone down and answered the door, after a moment he returned. “Ok, where were we?”
“Well, I was…” she stopped talking when she heard a crunch from his line. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing. Keep going.” Another crunch.
“Wait a minute. Are you seriously eating?”
“Man’s gotta eat.”
She shook her head. “How about you eat and call me back?”
“It’s almost 11 there,” he reminded her.
“Now I have this image of you eating and it’s turning me off. Call me tomorrow,” she suggested.
“I’ll be home tomorrow.”
She rolled her eyes. “Good night,” she said, flipping her phone shut before he could respond.
