Danny chuckled to himself, licking his lips. Ryan rolled his eyes, but offered up a crooked grin. The goalie shook his head and made to stand, but Danny groaned, pulling Ryan back to his chest. It was now Ryan’s turn to chuckle. “Listen, Danny, if you want me to nurse you back to health, you’re going to have to let me up.”

Danny tucked his face into Ryan’s hair and murmured, “Mmm who needs medicine when I’ve got you.”

“Sweet as that is,” Ryan started.

“Just stay here with me, just a little bit.” Danny said quietly, the laughter out of his voice, “I like when you’re here. We never see each other.”

Ryan’s face softened and he leaned his head back, shutting his eyes. “I miss you too.”

“It’s not the same.” Danny said.

Ryan remained silent, his hands trailing up and down Danny’s arms that circled him. Danny whispered softly to him, “Thank you for coming down here, you didn’t have to.”

Ryan squeezed Danny’s hands and replied, voice full of what only could be called love, “I only wish i could’ve gotten here sooner. I love you, you know. I miss you, and what you do for me.”

“Like what? Are you alright in Buffalo?” Danny asked.

“Yeah, yeah,” Ryan said, “I just... you used to talk with me before games, and when I wasn’t doing so well, you’d let me know that it was ok.”

“You’ve been doing fine, Ryan.” Danny said, “Better than fine.”

“We’re not winning.” Ryan whispered.

Danny tightened his embrace. “You’re the most incredible thing out there, Ryan. I love you. I respect you.”

Ryan smiled again, knowing that he was exactly where he needed to be.
