Mattress Chat!

Hello fibro friends!

Since I'm overdue to get a new mattress anyway, I thought I'd ask and see if any of you have found a particular mattress has helped your pain and/or sleep. I've heard Sealy Tempurpedics are good but they're freaking expensive. I'm hoping to spend not too much but I'm open to costlier options if they help.

Thank you in advance

No worries, I appreciate you taking the time to write it :)

That sounds more than reasonable, though I'm in Canada so no doubt it will cost a bit more. I kinda need a new bed too. One of the wheels has falled apart and I like the idea of a bed with storage.

my suggestion would be to get your bed (platform frame and mattress) set up and sleep on it for a few weeks to decide if you need an additional mattress topper or not.

i have *additional* nerve damage to the main nerve from the spine that runs down the right leg caused by an idiot giving an injection nicking it, which makes for a numb place on my right hip...and i sleep exclusively on my sides. so i needed some extra cushioning, you may not. in any case, i wish you well in getting a bed that suits you well!

(the extra storage will be wonderful, i need space for blankets and sheets and don't have *enough* linen closet space as it is.)

I'm primarily a back sleeper though sometimes I'll sleep on my side or my stomach. I'll have to annoy some mattress store clerk and try 'em all and take advantage of the 90 day warranty thing.

That's horrible about your nerve damage. Thanks again for your input!

I have a friend with fibro who recently got a sleepnumber bed & said her quality of sleep has been amazing since they got it. Sorry that's all the help I have!

Hmm, sleep number...is that an American thing? I'm in Canada. I shouldhave mentioned that but I'll look into it. Thanks!

My quality of sleep improved dramatically when I went to a memory foam mattress.

Some find them too hot as unlike traditional ones they are extremely good at retaining body heat.

I tend to get cold so heat retention would be a good thing. Thanks!

I have a lot of pain at night laying in bed. When we were able to replace our mattress I tried out a whole bunch of mattresses and eventually went for one with decent support and as big a pillow top as I could afford.
I have heard a lot of people go on about memory foam but I tried a few and when I lay down they were hard enough to hurt my fibro points and my hips and then I sank in to the mattress so far I couldn't get up or turn over. I decided it wasn't for me.

Eep! I don't like the idea of being eaten by a mattress. Thanks for weighing in!

I've got a sleep number bed with a very good topper. It was expensive when I got it, but there are so many different price points available, you should be able to get one. My daughter went to sleepy's and got a really comfortable mattress, good support comes first . . . then a good soft topper. Hers also was "matched" to pressure points. Give that a try. It was less expensive than a sleep number bed. Although, the sleep number bed does have a great platform, but the sheets get expensive if the mattress is too thick. All foam, I found I couldn't move around it either. I don't keep my sleep number bed lower than 65 or so, you really need good support underneath it all.

Hope this helps some. . . we are all trying to get some sleep. :)
