Mattress Chat!

Hello fibro friends!

Since I'm overdue to get a new mattress anyway, I thought I'd ask and see if any of you have found a particular mattress has helped your pain and/or sleep. I've heard Sealy Tempurpedics are good but they're freaking expensive. I'm hoping to spend not too much but I'm open to costlier options if they help.

Thank you in advance

i have a memory foam mattress with a 3 inch eggcrate memory foam topper.

YES i sleep much better. (ok, the best sleep i've gotten was on waterbeds, but that's not doable for a lot of people, plus MAKING the bed is a f'sking nightmare of OW at times.)

you do NOT have to go up to a name brand store IF you can have someone to help you mess about with furniture. seriously.

we're about to order a new platform bed, but other than that, the same things are about to apply...we ordered our bedframe (it's an all metal frame, with headboard and footboard) and mattress online. i think we paid a little over $350 for the mattress going through walmart.com and i cannot remember where i bought the bedframe from, but it was around $300.

if you go the online route, remember that the mattress will be all shrinkwrapped up with the air sucked out of it, and it takes at LEAST 24 hours to get all the way to normal. platform beds are the only way to go (in my opinion) because the frame i have now? the screws get loose every 6-8 months and i'm the one small enough to get under there and tighten them. NOT fun. in the meantime whenever King Walrus (i call him that to his face, so no insults...he has a walrusy mustache and he's a BIG guy) flips and flops and crashes about to turn in his sleep the bed sounds like a trainwreck. it's not going to fall apart, but it SOUNDS like it is!

we're going to a platform bed (just replacing the bedframe) with drawers underneath, and a bookcase headboard. that'll satisfy the extra storage needs *and* the shifting frame issues. :)

(and sorry about the novel!)

No worries, I appreciate you taking the time to write it :)

That sounds more than reasonable, though I'm in Canada so no doubt it will cost a bit more. I kinda need a new bed too. One of the wheels has falled apart and I like the idea of a bed with storage.

my suggestion would be to get your bed (platform frame and mattress) set up and sleep on it for a few weeks to decide if you need an additional mattress topper or not.

i have *additional* nerve damage to the main nerve from the spine that runs down the right leg caused by an idiot giving an injection nicking it, which makes for a numb place on my right hip...and i sleep exclusively on my sides. so i needed some extra cushioning, you may not. in any case, i wish you well in getting a bed that suits you well!

(the extra storage will be wonderful, i need space for blankets and sheets and don't have *enough* linen closet space as it is.)

I'm primarily a back sleeper though sometimes I'll sleep on my side or my stomach. I'll have to annoy some mattress store clerk and try 'em all and take advantage of the 90 day warranty thing.

That's horrible about your nerve damage. Thanks again for your input!
