Lyrica Commercials

Does anyone else just see red when the Lyrica commercials come on?? "For several weeks, I had this deep, unexplained pain." How about *years*? How about decades?? "I saw my doctor and he prescribed Lyrica." How about after seeing several doctors who don't believe you? Doctors who think fibro is a figment of your imagination or who think you just ( Read more... )

venting, rant, lyrica

Yeah, they tick me off to no end. "Deep throbbing pain" and rubs her shoulder...What about the fatigue, mind numbing exhaustion, mental fogginess and all the other lovely thing that go along with it. Grrrrr

Yeah, and taking a pill makes it all better. Try "makes it livable", try "makes it let debilitating".

I try not to pay attention to commercials.

Exactly!! Like pain is the worst part! How about inablilty to live the life you used to have, or the life you wanted?? Lyrica can't make that happen. Pfft.

I try to mute it every time I see one but sometims I'm not paying attention until it's on and then it's all RAGE. :-)

never thought of this until now, but rubbing your shoulder is just going to make it worse if you really have fibro!!

and they don't talk about the other aspects because lyrica does absolutely nada for them :)

They really are! Are they that condescending to people with other things wrong?? The ones specific to other types of illnesses, like rheumatoid arthritis. Those commercials piss me off and I don't have rheumatoid arthritis. I wonder if they bug people who have rheumatoid arthritis??

i wont even try lyrica. my mother and i have VERY similar reactions to drugs, you see, and she was put on it for shingles pain.

it increased her (biological/normal state) depression to the point that her normal meds did not help her, and she was distinctly suicidal. within a WEEK. and of course it took her another 2 weeks to be tapered off it again.

we both reacted VERY badly to prozac, too, when it was the wonder drug of the moment. plus, i'm considered a slight suicide risk since there was that pesky OD incident 21 years ago. *eyeroll* hey, it happened, i'm ok, but i'm hesitant to get on any sort of mood regulator because of it.

pills do NOT miraculously take fibro away. some can make it a HELL of a lot easier to deal with, but i'm still waiting for that moment.

Goodness that is very scary! I hope your mother is doing better now, but at least you won't have to find out for yourself, for whatever slight comfort that is. :-)

She's fully recovered from the lyrica fiasco, but is in another shingles flare.

Her recent stressors were: massive house cleaning for company, meeting my brother's fiancee for the first time, party for the 50th anniversary, and then their house was robbed, in a timespace of a little over two s. She's been a wreck because most of what was stolen was stolen was fifty years of jewelry gifts from my dad.

He traveled the world with the navy, so there was a lot of stuff that is irreplaceable. And most of my late grandmother's jewelry, too. It's been a rough month, to say the least.

That's so terrible. How heart breaking. I am so sorry to hear that!

*applause*

There is only ONE thing those commercials are good for. They are good for bringing fibromyalgia into common language and subtly convincing people it's real.

But otherwise ARGH!

That's true, I never thought about it that way! Maybe people will think if there's a drug for it, it must be a real thing. At least there's that. :-)

I just really try to ignore the commercial because the extra energy to get upset, for me, isn't worth it anymore. I just try to go and live my life how I'm able to because when I was first diagnosed and I kept seeing those commercials - I'd just get so upset and so angry that I'd pretty much be a puddle of nothing for days on end because of all the energy it took out of me.

I only stay mad for about 30 seconds after the commercial is on. It only took me a couple minutes to type up this post and then I forgot about it until today! :-)
