Neurontin for lack of a better term fucked me up. But I take side effects pretty hard. I had been on wellbutrin before too and I loved it, except for the fact that I couldn't pee. A more recent antidepressent I have been on was pristique, and that was a wonderful one. I stopped taking it due to the fibro pain bring me down too much for it to continue helping.

I am taking Neurotin (gabapentine) 900mg at bedtime and I find it is helping with my pain in general. It makes me clumsy (sort of like drunk but my mind is clear just I can't walk straight all the time)so that's why I take it at night with my muscle relaxer (Skelaxin). I don't feel like I'm having any serious side effects ( ... )

I'm on amitryptiline too, but a low dose at bedtime. Forgot all about that, haha. I haven't noticed any side effects though.

My gabapentine is spaced out, the 900mg is taken in 3 seperate doses.

Thank you for sharing your experiences!

I'm glad you haven't had any side effects :) My doctor said I must be really sensitive to that whole class of drug that amitriptiline is part of and to not take anything in it's drug family again. (I am also allergic to a lot of drugs so I'm not surprised >_> that I'm sensitive to some too!)

Gabapentine -- the side effects my friend has who takes the 2000mg for her seizures is that her fingers and toes are numb and she has a lot of balance problems and is thirsty/dehydrated feeling all the time.

so just be on the look out and try to drink lots of liquids while taking it :)

I had one of my doctors give me a September appointment in early July. It's really fucked that the woman (or man; I don't know) wrote your number down wrong and the crisis center didn't call you. They messed up, and now you have to pay. But that seems to be how things work these days. Its' messed up, but I often go in to get an appt. set up and have to wait 2 or 21/2 months. It's messed up.
I took Paxil, but it made me feel weird. Kind of jittery. But different anti-depressants work for different people. If they try to give you Paxil, you could gain a lot of weight. That's a common side effect. I'd try to steer your doctor away from that one. My doctor won't give me any because I'm supposedly bi-polar 2 and it might trigger a manic episode.

Paxil made me CLIMB THE WALLS. I called and got off it 2nd day of trying it. Staying w/"oldschool" nortryptiline.
Definitely concur that antidepressants can affect people differently (yay not being identical drones).

100 mg Nortryptiline (generic for Pamelor)
Old-School antidepressant I've been on for 10+ yrs.
Benefit? Provides "building blocks" for body to produce Serotonin. Kind of like a supplement works similar to tryptophan (turkey, iceberg lettuce).
I still can have really really down days, but the days of feeling like I was actually at risk for self-harming (like fantasy of driving into telephone pole or off bridge) very, very rare and I can get through those by reaching out.

My understanding is that Lyrica is Neurotin cleaned up to next step (or so) in body's absorption which is why supposedly less side effects. I have not taken Neurontin. Can your Dr. insist on Brand Lyrica rather than neurontin? My Neuro goes to bat for me constantly on brand vs. generic or what the Rx insurance plan tries to pawn me off to.
Sorry about the job loss. I've been out since April. Neuro wants me off work, once I get all monies out of previous employer (not unemployment; severence, pension, etc.--it was a massive layoff--) I am filing for SSDI.

My NP fought and argued and wrote letters and whatnot, and they just don't care. Ugh. :(

Certainly, I actually saw the icon on this LJ community couple years ago. I was given permisson to use it no strings. So use away. :)

Hoping your flares are fewer and easily lived through . . .

Cymbalta, Zoloft, and Lexapro all had (have) really bad sexual side effects for me.

I was a nympho on Lamictal, which is more a mood stabilizer than anything. But I found it helped keep me on the happier side of level.

Paxil didn't have sexual side effects for me, but I also didn't like it. The weight gain sucked.

Lamictal, i've never heard of that! It'd be good for me to be a nympho though, since my man is one, lol. ;)
