Rating: pg-13

Genre: ANGST, romance, some smut

Summary: Kim Kibum and Kim Jonghyun had the perfect relationship, right? They had everything, right? WRONG. But Key finds out the hard way and has to work towards getting over it so that he move forward and maybe find someone new. (summary sucks cause this started out as a one-shot XD)

Warning: small smut-ish scene near the end of this chapter, but nothing heavy.

Onew was waiting on his front porch when Key arrived. His heart fluttered a little as him and Onew made eye contact and the older boy cracked a winning heart-throb smile. It took all of Key’s concentration to park.

“Glad you could help me,” Onew beamed as he got in the car. “Sucks Taemin couldn’t come.”

Key smiled, “You can always rely on me.”

“I know that. Anyway, first we need to buy spray paint, candles, and flowers,” Onew said excitedly, looking at the back of his hand which had a detailed description of what the plan was.

Key started the car and laughed a little in disgust, but to Onew it sounded more like pity, “You must really like this girl.”

“Naw,” Onew waved, “I just want the only time I ask a girl to prom to be special.”

“Well,” Kibum thought, “At least he isn’t head over heels for her,” which lead him to ask, “Who did you want to take anyway?”

“I was thinking Luna because we’ve been really good family friends for as long as I can remember,” Onew said matter-of-factly. Almost as if it wasn’t ruining Key’s good mood.

“That bitch is so off my top eight,” Key automatically thought even though he hadn’t used myspace in forever and he’d been friends with Luna for even longer than that. He should have been happy someone like Onew wanted to take her to prom. Instead, he was plotting how he could disable her from going. Perhaps push her down some stairs?

“That will never work,” Key whined aloud.

“ I never said I wanted to date her, just take her to prom,” Onew said looking a little hurt by Kibum’s accidental comment.

Key covered his mouth, “I didn’t mean that. I was thinking of something else.”

“Oh,” Onew was back to his smiling, goofy self, “what were you thinking about?”

The air suddenly became awkward to Key as he fumbled through his mind for something to say because he assumed telling Onew he planned to hurt Luna wasn’t a good idea. “I, um, was thinking of how to ask this guy to prom.” It didn’t sound convincing to Key, but he was sure Onew would buy it.

Of course, Key was right, “Oh, well if you really want to ask him you should.”

Key thought about it for a moment, “yeah, it sounds good, but he’d never say yes. I think he already has a date.”

The car stayed silent for a moment and Key started to wonder if he’d said something to make Onew catch on. He looked back and forth between Onew and the road for a while, Onew had a look on his face like he was thinking very hard about something. It seemed like the kind of face one would have before a light-bulb moment. However, Key heard a waa-waa-waaaa~ in his head as Onew just smiled and said, “You’ll never know unless you try.”

Soon they arrived at the store and Key started to wonder if Luna had any specific flower she was allergic to so that Key could make Onew buy them. He could see it now: Luna breaking out and yelling, “I hate you, Onew,” he laughed aloud.

“What’s funny?” Onew asked.

“Oh,” Kibum had to think on his feet again, “these flowers over here look like lions. Isn’t it cute?” he smiled brightly.

“They do,” Onew gave a little laugh, buying the excuse again. He was so easily convinced and a bit clueless. It was cute, to Key.

They made their way through the flower store, Onew settling on some yellowish-orange flowers. They seemed perfect for Luna, which irked Key. Then, they got some cheap, tiny candles that didn’t really smell like anything, but came in a large amount. Key had pointed them out, in hopes that they smelled like poo when lit. Finally, they got a small can of red spray paint, specifically for lawn purposes. Again, this was Key’s idea, in hopes that it would look a little bit like blood and creep Luna out. Key felt like someone should be scoffing at him for having all these retarded ideas that would never keep Luna from accepting Onew’s prom invitation, but there was no one and he kept thinking of one ridiculous idea after another.

After gathering the supplies, Onew needed to spill the plan to Kibum. “So, I figured we could just go to her house and and write on her lawn with the paint, then surround it with candles, then I would throw rocks at her window or something until she looked outside to see me holding flowers.” It seemed like Onew had spent a long time thinking up this plan even though it seemed like something that had been done in 100 different movies or music videos.

“I suppose that should do,” Key teased. He would be squealing in delight at all the trouble his friend was going through if he wasn’t so hung up on liking him.

When they arrived a Luna’s the sky was already starting to dim, so they rushed a little, but took the time to put in careful detail. Key had to admit, Onew had a touch of something that made the whole thing look not too shabby. If Key was being asked to prom in this sort of way, he would have probably died from the overwhelming cuteness of it. “If only,” Key thought with a little pang of jealousy in his heart, not that he hadn’t felt jealous all night.

Finally, everything was done and set into place. “Okay,” Onew started, “Now I just need to get her to look out her window.”

Kibum sighed, but smiled, “I’m going to wait in the car.” He crossed his arms and made his way over to his car, getting in the drivers seat and rolling down his windows to make sure he didn’t miss any of it. After all, he had to know the whole story to spread it around.

Onew picked up a handful of small rocks. He threw the first one at Luna’s window and waited. However, nothing happened, so he threw another, and then another, and then another, and then another. He began to get a little fed up, so he picked up a slightly larger rock.

To Key, this was mildly amusing. He half-way wished that Luna wasn’t home or that it was the wrong window.

When Onew threw the larger rock it made a small ‘tink’ noise against the glass of the window and then there was a small ‘crack’. Onew froze where he stood, unsure what to do. Before he could unfreeze, the blinds to the window rolled up and then a boy known by the name Eunhyuk lifted the window, close by was Luna.

“Onew?” she said in a bit of disbelief, “What are you doing here?”

“Uhmm... well... actually, this isn’t how I pictured this, so will you come down here?” Onew said awkwardly.

At this point, Kibum wondered if he should be peeing himself laughing or be mortified for his clumsy friend. He was somewhere between the two and it was quite enjoyable.

When Luna came out of the house she looked even more confused than she had before. “You broke my window,” seemed to be the only thing she could get out of her mouth.

“Yeah, sorry,” Onew said scratching the back of his head. “Anyway, I came here to ask you to go to prom with me. ‘Cause we’re friends... so I thought may we could... or not... or...” Onew just stopped and stared at her, unsure of what to say.

“I have a boyfriend,” she said giving him an are-you-an-idiot look. “You know, the one who opened the window.”

“Oh,” was all he said.

“Is that Key? Key should have known. I think he was at the party when me and Eunhyuk hooked up,” she said, looking around Onew at a highly amused, yet interested Key who could no longer hear the conversation taking place.

“Nope, I mean, yes it’s Key, but no, he didn’t mention your boyfriend,” Onew still didn’t really know what to do or say.

“Well, this was really nice and I really appreciate it. I’m sorry it had to go to waste,” Luna said looking around at the lawn.

“It’s cool. Um, did you want me to, uhh, clean this up?” Onew offered.

Luna gave him a bit of sympathy, “No, I’ll do it. Just go. I really am sorry, Onew,” she apologized.

“No, it’s all good, see you,” Onew said and zombied back to Key’s car.

When he got in the car he was met with the uncontrollable laughter of Key. “I’m sorry, Oh my god, that was hilarious,” Key said cried out in laughter.

Onew buried his face in his hands, “That was awful.”

“Who was that guy?” Key asked after calming down only slightly.

Onew spoke through his hands, “Her boyfriend, who you apparently knew about.”

Key was a little shocked, but still highly amused, “I really didn’t know. If I was supposed to know, you can’t blame me, I’ve been hung up on other things. I’m so sorry, but you have to admit, this is going to be something else to tell your kids.” He started the car and began to drive away.

“Can we go somewhere? I don’t think I can go home and sit there feeling humiliated. I need to go somewhere and get this out of my head,” Onew said shaking his head and coming up to make eye contact with Key.

Key sighed, coming down from his fit of laughter and feeling delighted to get to spend more time with Onew, “Of course. I wouldn’t feel like a good friend if I let you try and shake it off alone.”

The car became silent for a while as Key drove on a long, winding road that didn’t have any street lamps. It wasn’t an uncomfortable silence, but a peaceful one. They were both thinking about what just happened and all the oddities that came with it.

“It really was hilarious, wasn’t it?” Onew said looking at Kibum.

Key turned his head to meet the other boy’s eyes, “Oh, you have no idea,” and they both erupted in laughter.

“Did you ever think you shouldn’t ask Luna?” Kibum inquired.

“It crossed my mind,” Onew said thoughtfully, “but all the steps up to this point felt right. Us going through all this felt right.”

They had driven to some nature trail on the side of the high way and climbed on top of Kibum’s car to watch the stars and reflect upon their endeavours of the night. Kibum made a thoughtful noise before saying, “well, there is always other people you can ask.”

“What’s the use? I’ve already done enough humiliating myself for at least a month.” Onew sighed.

Key felt bad because of how much he’d been praying for Onew’s failure. He got what he wanted, but at the cost of the elder being bummed out. “You can still go with me,” Key offered in a playful, yet pitying tone.

“Yeah,” Onew smiled, but still sighed, “it’ll be fun.”

Key pretended to be hurt, “Sorry I can’t be a lovely lady friend. I’ll work hard to try and live up to your expectations.”

Onew laughed and gave a real smile, “You’re more than enough.”

Suddenly, Kibum felt butterflies flutter in his stomach. An idea popped into his head that seemed crazy, but completely necessary. He bit his lip before taking a deep breath.

Onew was oblivious to the other boys thoughts. He was looking innocently up at the sky like he suspected nothing. Why would he? He wasn’t even about to speak, just looking up at the sky to gather his thoughts about things only he knew.

“You’ll never get another chance again,” Key told himself.

Before Key even knew it himself he was straddling the older boy, lips smashed against the other’s, to Onew’s surprise.

Immediately Key’s mind began to race with phrases like, “Why did you do that? Oh my god, why, why, why?”; However, he didn’t move an inch. He wasn’t sure if it’d been five seconds or five hours, but he did know that he wanted to die. Or rather he’d wanted to die until Onew started to kiss him back. At first, it was just the movement of the older boy’s lips against his, creating a rhythm. Then, Kibum felt Onew snake his hands over his hips, to rest on the small of Kibum’s back. At the moment, Key wasn’t sure if he was alive or where he was. He was completely wrapped up in a kiss that he wasn’t even sure was happening.

Any one who may have been watching would hardly call it a kiss, but more like a hardcore make-out session that was almost steamy enough to be rated NC-17. Key felt himself grind his hips out of pure instinct from need to be closer to Onew. In return, Onew let out a low groan from the back of his throat, vibrating all the way to the back of Key’s. This kiss was mind-blowing, unbelievable, completely and utterly--------

BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP

The boys separated and turned their heads toward the source of the noise, a car alarm from a ways away. It was quickly quieted and then the night was silent again.

They turned back to look at each other, neither knowing what to say. Key bit his lip as his eyes stared into Onew’s feeling the awkwardness eat up the air around them. Onew looked a bit dazzled and confused, but no signs of regret.

“Sooo,” Onew started, “that was weird.”
