Fic Friday, it would seem.

Argh, so, I said I was going to put those award thingies up this week, but real life got in the way and stuff took me longer than I expected. So, instead, here's a thing I wrote. A fic, if you will. It's pretty stupid. I hope you find it to your liking nonetheless.

Title: Roll
Rating: PG
Summary: The Marauders make their mark on the Sorting ( Read more... )

hilarious consequences, stupid, old meme, potential fail, humour, apparently i write fic, potter

You posted fic! *impressed* I really enjoyed this, and at the first 'Astley' I lol'd enough to scatter various cats. :D Very nice idea, and I enjoyed the AU element as well. Though I was wondering whether the house would do a literal Rick Astley and eventually just disappear... But I hope not. :)

Okay, and thanks urban dictionary! Yeah, I missed the rickroll thing on first reading, but it was funny even without it. :)

Thank you! ♥ This is - needless to say - very silly, but I think it worked out all right. Got the ball rolling, so to speak. I hope the cats weren't too freaked out - not the first time I've been accused of cat-scaring! :D

(I think Astley house probably survives at least long enough for the Weasley twins to be sorted into it. After that, who knows.)

Now that was a rickroll and a half! :D

You know, the kids at Astley house really are the most loyal Hogwartians, because they'll never give Hogwarts up, or let it down, nor will they run around (which either means that they won't cause any sort of ruckus by running in the corridors, or that they won't cheat on Hogwarts with other ancient, Scottish castles-turned-magical-schools...erm...) or desert the school. And think of all the wild, Rick Astley theme parties they will have!

Anyhow, this was hihgly entertaining. I just kept waiting for Dumbles to start dancing...:D

Aw, thank you! I'm really glad you liked it. :)

I agree about the Astley house kids. In fact, in this AU, Astley is the driving force behind the houses actually being united and stuff, rather than just saying they might be and then not bothering. I suspect that the extra responsibility leads to a heightened sense of... teamwork, I guess, between the Marauders, which means Peter never betrays Lily and James (they still get together, and their relationship is stronger from earlier on). Voldemort is killed in a traffic accident in 1982 and the whole Death Eater thing fizzles out. And so on. So it all works out very well.

Now, I thought I had an animated gif of Dumbledore dancing which I was all ready to post, but I can't find it. D: So I hope the icon will do.

Lol! This was a great way to start out summer break! And I loved how you specifically mentioned that the song hadn't been written yet! I wonder what the qualifications of the Astley house are...

I had to get offline quickly when I was writing that, so here's more comments!

You mentioned that it took half an hour for the students to get sorted, and it just occured to me how mind-numbingly boring that must be. Obviously the sorting in the fanfic would have been a bit more fun because of the new house, but every other year has got to be really boring. Although, I guess it's not that much worse than some assemblies at school. And those can last as long as two hours. And graduation ceremonies! How do people actually sit through this stuff without taking out a book?

Remus mumbling made me want to huggle him! But then again, almost everything he does makes me want to do that.

I hope you have a great time on your vacation!

Hmm... I can't decide if Astley house takes after Rick Astley himself, or after the Rickroll. I suspect the latter - so it's all about stupid humour and memes. :D

I can imagine the sorting being fun enough if you had a younger sibling being sorted or whatever, and I suppose meeting the newbies would be cool, but I agree it could get dull. JKR doesn't even bother writing a sorting ceremony in every book, so... yeah.

And, thank you! I'm glad you LOL'd. And thanks for the bon voyage too - back now, had a lovely time, but could do with another holiday to get over this one. :D

You... you Rickrolled Hogwarts. You... you!!!

the pointed hats that were technically regulation but that nobody else bothered with after their first day.

Bahahaaa!! Thank you. It's always annoyed me that this is mentioned in Harry's equipment list and, like, a couple of Sorting feasts, but never again. Why bother with it at all?

"Anyway," James added. "If you were really worried, you'd go out with me. Then I'd be too busy going out with you to ever misbehave or even think about it."

That's pure James, that is.

Astley won the house cup with over 9000 points.

Sorry, what was their point score again?

Oh, it was over nine thousand!

Wait, sorry -- what was it?

Over nine thousand!

Come again?

I think their point score was... wait... was it...?

And yeah, the hat thing. Actually I think the hats are a perfect example of how the earlier books are so utterly and completely children's books, because a wizard school requiring pointy hats in the uniform makes sense in that context; it's just that they don't fit later on, so they fizzle out. So yeah.

Anyway. Thanks for commenting. :)

"~ Fin ~"

Was that coincidential, or...?

Anyway, congrats on your fic! It was highly imaginative and/or drunken. Well, either way, it was entertaining. :P I love how you so subtly laugh at JK all the time! And your epilogue was very realistic, sadly. If the woman reads this, she'll probably think you're amazing...

Haha, thanks! I had so much fun writing this and then almost didn't post it because I thought it was so stupid. :P

Still waiting for an answer for the "~ Fin ~" part. Cause if it was in fact not coincidental, then I'm calling my lawyer.

I think "Fin" just means "end", doesn't it? It's a sort of tongue-in-cheek way of saying "the end", as if what you're writing is, in fact, an arty French film. :)
