So I guess I have an inconsistent and uneasy sort of relationship with the British royal family. As a general rule I see them as a fairly outdated and unnecessary institution, I don't think it's right that they are funded from public money, I don't particularly buy the argument that they bring in tourism and therefore are necessary for the economy ( Read more... )

poor taste, look at this fucking hipster, commemorative plates, awesome, befriending cutlery, for fuck's sake, declaring myself king, stay classy, picspam

OMG DO IT. I WILL LOVE YOU EVEN MORE THAN I ALREADY DO.

The stupid thing is that I'm being a total hipster about this, but there are people who genuinely love this crap. Every time an old person dies in a small town the local charity shops are showered with decorative plates. Observe.

IKR. I was so scared it was going to be a scam, but then it arrived and I wept tears of joy.

William Arthur Phillip Louis Mountbatten-Windsor??? (I would put more question marks, but I think I broke it.) Geez you guys.

(I wouldn't be too surprised if there are "old money" families in New England or the South which have similar huge strings of names. But where I comes from, people have three or four, tops.)

Beautiful Portraits™ of Kate Middleton and Prince... Harry.

Uhh... d'oh!

That's kind of the ultimate in, um.... *gigglesnort* *snicker* Engrish. *hides under the desk*

P.S. I was surprised and amused to find that there were actually other posts under the tags "befriending cutlery", "commemorative plates", "declaring myself king", and "look at this fucking hipster".

I don't know if that's even his official name. I think there's probably a grain of truth in there, but I suspect the makers of that towel have probably just gone on his Wikipedia page and hoovered up every name they found. XD

Saying that, yeah, posh people do have a lot of names. But, you know, normal people rarely have more than three. And not having a middle name is pretty common (I've only got a given name and surname).

The Engrish mug is incredible, isn't it? On the back it says "The fairytale romantic union of all the centuries". I love it.

On the back it says "The fairytale romantic union of all the centuries".

I bet they recycled that from their Charles and Di one.

omg that MUG!! we have our share of crazies here. Some people want us to make them a replica wedding cake to celebrate at their 6AM wedding tea party. In a plantation. My mind, it boggles.

And pictures of your Pisa or it didn't happen. I'll send you American kitsch if you send me British!!

Oh my god. That is insane. Are they expecting you to know what the cake's going to be like and make an exact copy?

Meanwhile - OMG. You're on! PM me your address (which you've probably given me before but I am way too disorganised to have kept) and I will gather you the tackiest, most vulgar shit I can find. Oh my god, this is going to be so much fun! :D

Just a fruitcake - with icing. Which we don't do. lol. And Your pisa - it's ...magnificent. The chipping paint just makes it more "authentic" and "historic" you can always call that the patina!

The tea towel makes William look fifty. By that time, it'll be faded from washing :).

I also LOL at the prince Harry mug. It's the sort of thing that'll be valuable in future :P.
