I'm glad Maurice managed to get Lestrade out of doors some of the time, and to such memorable effect... Sounds like Sutherland might be the equivalent of Rosenkavalier (as far as you can go without falling off?) But Queen's View looks a little like Coniston, though without that particular beloved skyline of great hills, so now I want to send them there, though I don't suppose Lestrade will be interested as you can't do it by sleeper.

I think Maurice could find a way to get Lestrade interested in most things, sooner or later, even without the aid of a sleeper... I haven't been to Coniston myself but can see the likeness from the pictures.

“Morbid sod,” Lestrade says affectionately. “Just as well you didn’t, eh?”

This bit reminds me a bit of the novel, where Maurice wanders about in his depression after Clive breaks things off with him.

You are happy-making. You know that, right? While there seems to be a shortage of Maurice/Alec fics out there, you keep me very satisfied with the alternative Maurice/Lestrade.
