I know what you mean about drabbles - the kissbingo fic minimum is 500 and I keep thinking I'll manage to stick closer to it...

So beautiful! I'm glad your holiday was so inspiring.

And this:

"Please remember this, he begs his mind. Whatever else I lose when I’m old and going gaga, please hold on to this moment with Maurice."

melted my heart. It's gone all gooey now.

thank you very much! *blushes*

very glad you enjoyed it.

the journey to Dunkeld really was like that, though I didn't go to Queen's View this time. but it seemed the perfect setting for that scene between them.

This story took me back to a 2003 visit to Scotland. It's wasn't winter, but I did see the Tay. *g* Your beautiful and detailed description helped me imagine the setting and make it even more romantic. Once again, it's great to see Maurice sharing something that means so much to him -- and Lestrade obviously appreciates it. The interaction between both characters is very sweet and touching. I love this part in particular:

“Oh good,” Maurice says. “I’m glad you like it too. I think it might be my favourite view in the world.”

Lestrade looks at Maurice, cheeks flushed and eyes bright in the cold December air. “Well up in my top ten.”

“You’re not even l- oh.” Maurice blushes up to the tips of his ears and pulls him into another passionate embrace.

thank you very much! *beams*

I'm so glad you liked it, and that bit in particular.

I used to live within sight of the Tay (though not the bit of it M and L can see from the hotel dining-room), and spent a very happy few days gazing at it from my friends' window over Christmas.

I'm just back from Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness, and the snow up there was wonderful as well - thanks for a reminder of properly glittery Scottish snow, not like southern English slush. I think some time Maurice should take Lestrade to Applecross in Wester Ross, which is murder to get to, up the Bealach nam Bo pass and its hairpin bends, but has wonderful views, a ruined Celtic monastery and a really good inn.

Incidentally, when are we going to learn what Lestrade and Maurice did at Hogmanay?

thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed it, and glad to hear the snow is wonderful at Drumnadrochit (which I have been to, though not for 20 years). I don't know Applecross, but it sounds good.

hmm, Hogmanay - I must give this some thought...
