I knew there was a reason not to go and watch Maurice for a few minutes more. And this was it. Now I will go and toast the crumpets. Thank you.

I'd forgotten there was a cricket match. Did Durham actually made Scudder retire so he could have a bat? Pah! Any sympathy I still had for him evaporated.

I watched the last half-hour twice...

this one and the *sulks* one I use most of the time are by eumelkeks. the under-gamekeeper icon is what got me started writing Lestrade!fic, because the idea of a Lestrade/Scudder crossover was irresistible.

*claps* I'm so happy you wrote a maurice/sherlock cross over! Every time I see Lestrade I think of Alec. This was a really awesome story! ♥

thank you very much! I'm so pleased you enjoyed it.

I've written several maurice/sherlock crossover fics now (if you would like to read more there are links to them in "My fic masterlist" on this page). there are also two earlier parts of this opera story, and I should put a link to them in this part...

this wonderful icon by eumelkeks is what got me started on writing a Lestrade who was in service at a big house in his youth before he joined the force. he first appears in Close Analysis, but does not meet Maurice until The Old Bad Songs.

I love that moving icon with Sherlock and The Coat!

"Rosenkavalier and you in black tie? I may spontaneously combust."

Being a total opera illiterate, the former doesn't mean anything to me (sorry); but Lestrade in formal attire, that I CAN properly appreciate.

thank you! there will be something about Rosenkavalier in the final part, which should explain a bit about it. it's also the source of the music at the end of my earlier fic Consequences.

I think many people share this appreciation of Lestrade in formal attire...

Classically trained musician working in the business I may be, but opera is my least favourite genre. However, I'm loving these little fics and maybe my listening or viewing of the operas just might be seen in a different light from now on ;-)

thank you very much! *beams*

I'm so pleased that you are enjoying these fics. I am sure that happy associations with Lestrade (and Maurice) would improve almost any genre, in music or otherwise...
