Fender Reviews: GOTR's Murphy's Law.

Feb 05, 2012 18:53

Just gave a listen to GOTR's "Murphy's Law." Since I still have apprehensions about purchasing the album due to not wanting Charlie deMars to benefit from the sales, I'm glad someone put the whole thing on YouTube. Sucks for the other fellows though, I suppose.

I can't say I'm surprised by how much I didn't enjoy this listening experience.

But what do you really think?

All kidding aside, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate someone who is not afraid to be brutally honest in their reviewing.

I try to be as honest as possible. As much as I dislike some of the other GOTR albums, this is probably the worst of them all. It's the worst, but it has the highest production values. There are just too many layers and too many things going on in each track. They've always wasted time with background noise at the end of some tracks before, but this album had it on almost every track. It literally pained me to listen to some of it... like the reverbing electrical noises for over a minute.

Can I ask why you hate Charlie DeMars? Have you met him? Did he kick your dog or something?

I love this album, by the way.

I used to find him smug and off-putting ... Now I just find him more smug and off-putting
The things he wrote about James and the other bandmembers on his Myspace after the break were awful, and I can't say that I'm surprised that his irresponsible behavior finally landed him in jail. I feel like the whole album was rushed because of Charlie's plea agreement. They should have simply waited for him to be released in two years because this whole album is a jumble to me.

Ah. I always found him to be kind of shy.

I never read what he wrote, but they're all friends now. And I daresay he's a different person. Anyway, thanks for explaining your POV. :)

By the way, he doesn't personally get any of the money that comes from the album, just FYI.

I should say that, while I believe Charlie is an adequate guitarist, I don't like his.voice or his writing style. I do enjoy Méfiant, but that's more for the piano (which Charlie may play).

As to Charlie.personally, those I know who had contact with him.don't have high regard for.him, and his.own words, vids, and public behavior don't give me much to say about him except that I hope he learns something meaningful while in jail.

Sorry about the typos. I'm using my phone's keypad.

I'm glad you like it. It was just a little something I could do while in-between classes.
