Aurora rubbed the soft cloth over the breastplate, polishing it to a shine like the rest of the armor. She smiled at Mulan.
"I remember the first time I saw you wearing this armor. My beautiful protector. My warrior. So strong and mighty. But soft too," Aurora gave Mulan a light kiss on the lips. "I felt it even then. Something I couldn't explain or understand. Something you taught me. True love."
Together in silence they lay, Aurora cuddled in close, tracing a dent in the breastplate. An imperfection where damage had been repaired. There was only the sound of breathing.
After a while Snow White came, dressed in black. "It's time."
Aurora wished she could stay like this with Mulan forever. She touched her finger to the imperfection again, where the arrow had pierced and the armor had failed.
The arrow that had penetrated Mulan's heart and broken Aurora's.
Aurora kissed Mulan's forehead and then lingered on her lips for the last time. Then she nodded to Snow. It was time for the funeral.
She wished there was some kind of armor that could shield her from how much it hurt.
